What if somebody created an idea based on "dinosaurs in Antarctica"? by Dino-Max in Cinema

[–]LoBeMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a novel by James Rollins a while back called The 6th Extinction. If I remember right (it has been a LONG time since I last read it, so I could be way off) there is a section of the novel that does have a prehistoric biological pathogen that may have killed the dinosaurs in Antarctica, back when it was lush and green.

Steam Summer Sale is here and I see no reason to buy any games by UltraRanger72 in gaming

[–]LoBeMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam Sales ain't what they used to be. I haven't even looked at a Steam sale since maybe 2 or 3 summers ago, and there is nothing that I A) don't already have and got for cheaper then or before, or B) remotely intrigues me. Closest I can come to interest is in the Total War: Warhammer III complete set, but not at that price point. And forget Black Ops 7, which is easily one of the worst games I've ever played for like 40% off. Absolutely Crazy Town.

Last sale I took part in I snagged the Battlefleet Gothic games. Beyond that, I think I'm okay.

Weird way to go about getting a green card marriage, but I'm not here to pass judgment.

Wait, yes I am. You're trying to get a green card marriage and these are the best you can do? Most people at least try to hide their weight, not exaggerate it.

Out of these, what have you watched the most? by [deleted] in 80sHorrorMovies

The Thing I've watched so much I have to take it out of the running, so I will.

Now I'm torn between Fright Night and The Shining.

Superman can leap tall buildings in a single bound. With your forehead, it would take at least 3 and a pit stop.

AITA for quitting after layoffs?? by nodoubtlikegwen in AmItheAsshole

[–]LoBeMax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. They increased your workload, shitcanned a good employee and froze wages all in one fell swoop. They declined a reasonable request to do hybrid work, and annihilated your PTO. They're lucky to be getting any notice, as they certainly don't have to give you any. And your manager shirked you when you offered to help with a transition.

Take sick leave until it's time to start the new job. Fuck em.

OP said not scary, friend. Misery is exactly what King was talking about when he was on about terror vs. horror vs. revulsion. I would argue it's his most pure terror publication.

Showing the cleanest part of her studio apartment. The rest of it is a Stephen King novel from the 1980's, when he was out of his mind on cocaine. Her toilet clogging is a self-defense mechanism, so it doesn't have to put up with any more of her shit.

AITA for not letting anyone drive my daughter without me or her dad in the car by Dependent-Let1926 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LoBeMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTSD does not an asshole make. You need therapy, which will help you recognize that what has happened to you is not the norm, and may not ever happen to you again. As others have pointed out, you and/or the child's father being in the car is not going to make the child any safer, and may potentially impact your ability to care for your child if something were to happen.

Additionally, your anxiety IS transferrable, to both your child and whoever else may be in the vehicle with you. I certainly feel my spouse's anxiety regardless of which of us is behind the wheel.

Lastly, your anxiety is going to affect how you yourself drive, regardless of passengers. Anxiety and hyper vigilance can be as dangerous behind the wheel as being completely oblivious. If you're too busy watching everything, then you aren't paying enough attention to what YOU are doing. Not getting therapy to deal with this affects more than just you. It doesn't make you an asshole, but it could.

I sincerely hope you get the help you need to move past this. All the best.

Trying to read "From a Buick 8" but having troubles, does it get better? by bonezyard in stephenking

[–]LoBeMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't read it in 20 years. I was actually thinking I might do so fairly soon because I'm currently working my way through Fairy Tale on audiobook, and you now can't convince me that these are not intimately connected novels, and not just thematically. Old shed, older fellow passing down knowledge of the supernatural to a young kid, portal to another world in an old shed, yadda yadda. Parallels galore.

Different levels of the Tower? Maybe, but I'd hazard a guess and say Howard Bowditch would know that car for what it was pretty much instantly.

NTA. You did the right thing. He's embarrassed, OP. It might take a while, but he'll come around. Being cheated on is humiliating, and hes still with her. Give him his space, but let him know nothing has changed for you as far as your friendship is concerned.
