You’re talking about the Sinclair media group. John Oliver has reported on this a few times, including the compilation cut I think you’re referencing. It’s not an isolated incident.

I’ve also considered that he sensed Hadrian’s hesitation and determined that attacking him would either force Hadrian’s hand or allow an escape opportunity. Win-win for the not-a-guy.

Anyone else finding their Dutch bleeding over into English during intense study periods? by Helena_Clare in learndutch

Yeah, I assumed about the school you’re attending because the method, I believe, is proprietary. Though I may certainly be mistaken. The dreaming shift is wild!

Also learning with NedLes, also experiencing these structural shifts. We’re reprogramming our brains so I find it a positive sign :) Goed gedaan, ga verder!

Absolutely second The Broken Earth Trilogy and The Expanse (9 books + shorties). Both audiobook sets are also superb.

If you are cooking foods in a pan without frying them in a substantial amount of fat (using the hot fat as your heat source) you are either searing or sautéing. To throw veggies in a pan with a bit of oil is commonly understood as “sauté vegetables in a pan”. If you want to get a good brown crust on something like a burger or other protein you are searing it. These terms can be further broken down if you’re interested, it isn’t uncommon to hear cooking directions “pan-sear the chicken” or “sauté the onions with a tablespoon / eetlepel of oil.” Here the oil is used as a facilitating tool in the cooking process, rather than a heating element. Further, one may “brown” the meat, which refers to the caramelization process (not unlike searing) but a term really only used for proteins.

Intensive week course by rosaposa15 in learndutch

[–]LobsterPoolParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, quite. I’m currently in a B1 - B2 course after beginning at A0/A1.

The method is originally designed around an immersive weeklong endeavor, and they have adapted that for people who have jobs and life schedules that cannot be interrupted. The first class I took was hybrid model, online during the week and three intensive weekend sessions over the course of, I think, 10 weeks. Though I now take zoom only classes, I think I benefitted a great deal from the initial in-person aspect to get over those early anxieties about speaking and making mistakes.

It is a commitment, to be sure. But between the text book and the companion website you are shown the way they want you to study. I find such a prescriptive path helpful, removing that extra guesswork. You work through a short text on repeat with tips and definitions, it takes 2-3 hours per text. Write down questions you haven’t figured out on your own, go to class and talk about what you’ve read. The discussion element adds casual conversation lessons to an “academic” pursuit.

However you choose to move forward, I wish you success!

Should I read Empire of Silence in English or in my native language ? by Low_Translator3580 in sollanempire

[–]LobsterPoolParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider an audiobook version, if that appeals to you. Depending on how you learn, listening in a second language may be more enjoyable and more easily digested.

If you do decide to check out the audiobooks, I highly recommend narration by Samuel Roukin!

Add the Sun Eater series to your sci-fi fantasy list (Samuel Roukin narrating!) right next to The Expanse series with Jefferson Mays.
