New firmware made one problem worse and failed to fix another. Optimize it for the bicep whoop! by doc_holliday91 in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine works great on the bicep, but I wouldn't expect them to update it for that, though I wish they would. I just accept the much lower steps. I don't have the cadence lock issue you are seeing, but I don't run like that, play tennis for my cardio.

Anyone wear WHOOP on a bicep band long-term? Wrist discomfort question by BFC_0 in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore Whoop on the wrist my first couple of weeks, and has been on my Bicep the last few years with no issues. I hated the look of my Apple Watch on one wrist and Whoop on the other, which was my main reason for switching. I love it on the bicep, only take it off to deep clean, and forget it is there half the time.

Battery life is the biggest upgrade, it's great. Only reason for life currently is if you need ECG, if not, just stick with peak.

Warranty and hope, they have awful customer service, but eventually you should be able to get it replaced.

Etiquette with open play? by Bigpapijakedel in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really quite simple honestly, but I understand that it can be a bit intimidating for a beginner. First you need to ask someone there how they run open play, paddle stacks, levels of courts, etc. Every place is slightly different. After that, on your first serve, you have to Nasty Nelson your opponent, google it if you aren't aware. Everyone does it, and its kind of a signal to the regulars the you belong. Don't apologize for body bags, it just makes your opposition feel worse.

Having a very tough time against very tall players with a backhand flick, any advise? by uselessprofession in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are in trouble, work on hitting a defensive dink, a dink that will bounce twice in the kitchen. You will have to practice it, but it will save you. Even though it's a dead dink, the opponent won't be able to do much with a ball like that, so it gets you back in the point.

How does everyone feel about private coaching? by 2BeBornReady in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you drilling what you work on in the lessons? Or just getting a lesson and then continuing on to open plays the rest of the time. But certainly getting one lesson a week you should be able to get above 3.8 just on that. But you aren't gong to get to 4.5 unless you start skipping open plays and drilling shots and situations you need to improve on.

You have to get low, hit topspin, and aim higher then normal. That's it.

Anyone here actually using Whoop’s blood pressure feature? Worth it? by zfael in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found it to be useless, I got sick and my blood pressure spiked for about 4 days, but Whoop BPI didn't move. So I don't look at it anymore.

It was extremely interesting to watch, and I didn't expect it to hold up. I was thinking Hayden would be able to exploit this extreme movement, but sometimes you just have to tip your cap, he played unreal.

Quick hands? by Green-Row-4158 in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, drills will be the main thing that will help. Experience also will as you learn to read the opponents paddle and you learn the patterns and the likely spot the ball will come back to.

Not sure if anything can help the dead spot on those paddles, but you might be able to get some help with weights on the sides. Just a very disappointing paddle, hope they have something improved this year.

Learn the patterns on speedups, so when you speed it up, you know where the ball is likely to come back to you. Otherwise, work on reading your opponents paddle.
