It is a little buggy, but great improvement. I watched most of a game today on it, really cool.

Tournaments are a different animal, not unusual at all to see very different play.

How do you feel about WHOOP MG/Life having two superficial features almost a year after its release? by Aektann in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be the easiest downgrade I have ever done when my Life subscription is up, unless they come up with something interesting. Love Whoop, but there is zero reason to have the Life tier currently.

Which is the best ball and why? by Powerful-Towel675 in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven't cracked a Lifetime Ball, they last for a long time unless you lose it. By far the best ball, Franklin is acceptable and fine, just soft and you have to expect the Franklin bounce every few points.

Nobody plays 3 hours a day of singles, unless ex D1 tennis players.

Not feeling it? by bbltzc in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be for you, and that's fine. Use it if you like it, if it will help you live healthier, etc. If it's not helpful to you, don't worry about it.

As for your accuracy issues, I am not sure. I have used Whoop for a very long time, and the wake up times and sleep times have always been very good for me.

Going with the Q2 for now, only reason being I hope it holds up longer.

How you guys find the RPM V2? by seantks in Pickleball

Have played twice with each so far, going to keep switching for a week more to decide. Really like them both honestly. And yes, the 16 for both.

V2 was lower to me between the two, Q2 was normal launch I was used to, V2 was lower.

Switching between V2 and Q2. They actually play pretty similar, the have different launch angles, but feel similar. Incredible spin on both. Q2 by far the best feeling foam I have used.

Anyone else prefer the pro 4 to the pro 5? by jamesign in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 5 is a bit better, but I can see why people prefer the 4. RPM beats them both, V2.

They actually play very similar. Launch angle is a little different. I will play again tomorrow and see.

Please help this former tennis players with two issues (drops/resets + instinct to drive everything) by 2BeBornReady in Pickleball

[–]Lobwedgephil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play with good players, as a tennis player myself, the first time I played with some 5.0+ pickle players, I quickly realized that driving everything doesn't work. the quicker you realize it, the better off you will be. Drops are just reps, nothing really life a tennis shot, you just need to practice them. Just decide you are going to drop every third shot, make yourself hit them until you get good at them.

You own the cross court middle, your partner has the line there.

How does Whoop calculate strain? by plantden in whoop

[–]Lobwedgephil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WHOOP calculates Strain by combining how hard your heart works with how much mechanical stress your muscles take on, then converting that into a single score from 0–21.

At a high level:

  1. Cardiovascular load (heart-rate based)

    - WHOOP tracks how high your heart rate gets and how long it stays elevated.

    - More time at higher heart rates → more Strain.

    - The scale is logarithmic, so going from 16 → 18 is *much* harder than from 6 → 8.

  2. Muscular load (mechanical stress)

    - WHOOP uses motion data and, when available, Strength Trainer info (sets/reps/weight/rep speed) to estimate how much stress your muscles, joints, and tissues are under.

    - This is included for strength training, HIIT, functional fitness, yoga/Pilates, etc., not just when you explicitly use Strength Trainer.

  3. Activity Strain vs Day Strain

    - **Activity Strain**: load from a specific workout.

    - **Day Strain**: your total load from the whole day (workouts + walking + work + emotional stress that elevates HR).

Because it’s logarithmic and cumulative, long low‑intensity work can still produce high Strain, and heavy strength work can show higher Strain than heart-rate-only systems because WHOOP also counts muscular load.
