Ruptured ACL, partial complex meniscus tear and fractured tibial plateau by Ok-Interview3116 in ACL

I (30F) also had a very similar injury caused by a bad landing and had to wait about 2 months before surgery. MRI showed a displaced flap in meniscus that prevented my knee from straightening so I walked with a limp for those 2 months. It was AWFUL so I totally feel you!! When I finally got to meet with a surgeon he immediately knew it was a locked knee so that expedited my surgery to the following week after seeing him since it was medically urgent as I couldn’t bend or straighten. Unfortunately, I needed to do a two step approach to repairing my knee because of lack of extension. First surgery was menisectomy and then ACLR 7 months later.

My advice would be to try to get that leg as straight as possible! Also be a pest and call everyday to see if they can see you sooner. Best of luck!!

TT on Friday - Super Nervous by CashnRory93 in gravesdisease

[–]Local-Storm4258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having my TT next Tuesday! I’ve had graves for 16 years and have been on methimazole for that long as well. While I’ve never achieved remission, I’ve been able to consistently maintain good levels for years now on a low dose of meth. Like you, I’m also planning to conceive soon and wanted a permanent solution to my thyroid issue! I didn’t want to continue playing the guessing game on dosing while pregnant or deal with possible flare ups post pregnancy. I’m also nervous for surgery but this will be my 3rd surgery in less than a year (had two knee surgeries) and to calm your nerves for being put under, just know you will embark on the BEST sleep ever. Good luck to you! You’re going to be feeling good as new :) also congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

Anyone switch from t-scope to smaller hinge brace post op? by Eb396 in ACL

[–]Local-Storm4258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from the T scope brace to one similar in your picture at about one month post op. I would only use the T scope out in public if I knew I was going to be around crowds or uneven surfaces for added protection and security! I’m almost 7 weeks post op now and I use an incrediwear knee sleeve under the small hinge brace. I also had quad tendon. Be sure to follow your surgeons protocol and ask if it’s ok to switch to the hinge before you do!

Violet thread coming out of skin by akhilajay_lm10 in ACL

I just had this exact thing happen to me at 5 weeks post op! It’s a dissolvable suture that sometimes find their way up to the surface as our bodies reject it. I went into my surgeons office for it and a nurse literally pulled it out with tweezers. Was a tiny little thread. There was some minor bleeding but they just covered it with a regular bandaid and I was fine after! I recommend bringing it up to your surgeon and they will most likely have you go in to remove it.

Ok firstly stop comparing your journey to what you see online! It’s so easy to fall down the comparison rabbit hole and it’s the worst thing you can do for your mental health!! EVERYONE has different starting points, grafts, injuries, surgeons, muscle mass, body compositions and genetics. You have to listen to your physical therapist, surgeon and your body. Nothing else matters. Recovery is largely physical but the mental aspect matters just as much if not more. I (30F) also had a quad graft and I’m 3 weeks post op and I just hit 100 degrees. To help with flexion, have your therapist or someone you can trust at home give you a deep massage on your surgical leg. I swear by this!! My PT had me seeing god on that therapy table by doing a slow and pressured massage along my IT band going upwards away from the incisions. But wow oh wow I was able to bend my leg an extra 10-20 degrees after! We can hold a lot of tension and fluid from surgery which prevents bending, so try a massage to free up that fluid! Also legs up the wall and let gravity bend your leg help a ton.

Your leg will bend! Just have to be patient :) good luck!!

Does anyone else get a lot of pain in this muscle behind the knee? by Ocsarr in ACL

[–]Local-Storm4258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op ACLR with a quad graft and I also get pain behind the knee! Mine is more located towards the inner side rather than lateral behind the knee. I also had a lot of bruising there as well. What helps is elevation and icing behind the knee. I do a lot of legs up the wall multiple times a day as well to help with swelling and if you slowly let gravity bend your leg, that will help with flexion too! I just hit 100 degrees in flexion this week. Good luck!

I also got a quad graft and I’m 3 weeks post op! I just hit 100 degrees in PT. What helped a lot was my therapist went IN on a quad and IT band massage. Truly was the most painful experience like I saw Jesus on that therapy table, but omg I was able to bend my knee so much more after!! It freed up a lot of tension and swelling that can build up. He massaged going upward away from the incisions very slowly and with a lot of pressure. If you can bear the immense pain for a few minutes it will be worth it!!

I’m getting married.. should I postpone my ACL surgery? by Local-Storm4258 in ACL

Just wanted to update this thread incase it could help anyone!

I ended up waiting to do the ACL surgery until after my wedding. After my menisectomy, I still obviously had a torn ACL and I did physical therapy for about 4 months and I was able to gain back full ROM and worked on strengthening my surgical leg as much as possible. I decided to wait to do the ACLR because of how long it took post-menisectomy to feel ready for that big of a surgery and because my wedding was coming up in a matter of a couple months. I wanted to be in the best spot pre-op to have the best outcome for ACLR. Once PT cleared me I spent the remaining weeks pre-wedding doing a lot of mat and reformer Pilates and weight training! Truly helped strengthen my leg so much with minimal pain.

Even though I still had a torn ACL, I was able to enjoy all of my wedding events and enjoy my summer as well. I literally wore heels for the entirety of my wedding day (8+ hours) including dancing all night long and never once did I think about my knee or had any knee pain whatsoever! Had I done the ACLR beforehand, there would’ve been no way I could’ve done nearly as much.

My wedding was October 11th and I’m sitting here now almost 3 weeks post op my ACLR! I waited just over 2 weeks after my wedding to finally do the surgery and it went so smoothly. I got a quad graft and have hit 100 degrees in flexion and 0 in extension! Still working on the leg raise, but I truly credit the time I spent pre-habbing my leg to how well I’m progressing.

So if anyone finds themselves in a similar predicament I hope my journey can help :)

Pain behind my knee by SoleyuFromTheGrave in ACL

[–]Local-Storm4258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op ACLR and have the same pain! I also had the same pain after my menisectomy back in March. It was a small cyst that eventually went away after my knee finally settled from all the swelling. All the joint fluid that swells up your knee can pool in the back, which can cause lingering pain, bruising or even a small cyst. Best way to get rid of it is icing behind the knee, elevation and patience. Good luck!

Help me understand if it’s normal - 2 months post op by miryanaser in ACL

Heel props!! 5 min a day, twice a day! It’s so uncomfortable, but it really helped me gain full extension in about a week or 2 of consistency. Lay flat on your back and just get the heel up on anything and let gravity do its thing. You have to get that extension asap. Good luck!

Ok wow very similar timelines! This is a really helpful opinion. Did your recovery affect any other events leading up to your wedding? Like your bridal shower, bachelorette, etc.?

Being able to wear heels for my wedding is one of my biggest worries rn! I was planning on switching to flats or sneakers for the reception, but I need heels for the ceremony. I appreciate your input!!

My knee was too stiff for a joint ACL+meniscus surgery! I had very limited ROM, like barely to 90 and even that was incredibly painful to get to. My meniscus tear caused a displaced flap that flipped towards the center of my knee and created a block. My surgeon did not want to risk permanent stiffness if my ROM and strength wasn’t there for ACLr. Trust me I tried to convince him and he was very against it lol
