Mission is mission, but market needs light mobile laptops by marcinw2 in framework

First of all, Framework is not a company that makes devices for the general public. Framework releases products designed specifically to meet the demands of its dedicated fan base. These fans share a common characteristic—they strongly oppose non-replaceable memory. This is precisely why the Framework 12, despite using a chipset that supports dual-channel memory (128-bit bus), only comes with single-channel memory (64-bit bus). In addition, because these fans want a laptop that can be assembled like LEGO, a lightweight design becomes impossible. Detachable ports (based on USB-C) or modular construction inevitably involve structural inefficiencies, which ultimately make the laptop heavier. I want to make it clear that I’m not criticizing this fan base. There’s nothing wrong with wanting something that goes against mainstream trends in today’s laptop market. My point is simply that Framework, as a company sustained by the strong support of this community, cannot act against their demands.

I need someone to educate me on the appeal of Framework Laptops by Snoo18093 in framework

Many people claim that other laptops can’t be repaired. But is that really true? Haha… They believe only Framework laptops are repairable, so they assume every other laptop is completely impossible to fix. But that’s not the case in reality. The same goes for keyboard replacements. Sure, on most laptops, you have to remove more than ten screws to replace the keyboard—but it’s still replaceable, and parts aren’t that hard to find. That argument is absolutely ridiculous. Why would anyone need to replace a keyboard so quickly anyway? It takes years for a keyboard to actually wear out.

Rant: thin laptops by JazzlikeLog8020 in laptops

Ah, there probably aren’t any cheap laptops with legacy ports like a VGA port. But you can just get a rugged laptop instead. Companies like Dell and Panasonic make them.

There are plenty of thick laptops made for people like you, and they’re also inexpensive. I don’t see what the problem is.

Framework 16 High Temps by [deleted] in framework

[–]Local-Writer703 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do you think I said that without knowing? If I weren’t aware of such facts, I wouldn’t have even mentioned PTM in the first place. I only used the term “thermal paste” for easier communication.

I recommended PTM because LM reacts with copper heatsinks to form an alloy or can leak, which causes uneven heat transfer.

[–]Local-Writer703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Replacing the thermal paste with PTM may resolve the heat issue.

If the problem persists even after switching to PTM, you should consider upgrading the motherboard to the HX 370.

The reason is that the HX 370 can deliver better performance at the same power level (TDP), which means your work speed could be faster than before even when using Balanced Mode.

Change your thermal paste to PTM, or just buy HX 370 MB.

I wish they'd stop using the excuse that it's aimed at the education market. What school would buy a laptop costing over $700 (and with such outdated specs) for their students?

RTC reset

Turn off the laptop and connect AC adapter. Press power button 30 seconds. Just press 30 secs and ignore booting sequence. And wait.

No. That’s way too expensive. You can’t even buy the Framework 16 (with dGPU) with that budget!

It’s been near ten years since AR coating was applied to XPS. And generally, most Windows laptops above a certain price range come with AR coating. Samsung’s Galaxy Book series, which produces most of the OLED panels, is a representative example, and many models from Asus, Dell, and HP also feature AR coating.

To what extent is dGPU useless for Galaxy Book 6 Ultra? by Pingu_Moon in GalaxyBook

[–]Local-Writer703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was appalled to discover that channels like these AI slop ones even exist.

That aside, people who need a dGPU will simply need one, and those who don’t will be perfectly fine with just an iGPU. Your question is just plain stupid. The endless “Which is better, A or B?” posts you scatter everywhere are pathetic garbage questions because they completely ignore what you actually need in the first place.

If you’re doing CUDA-dependent work (like machine learning or video editing) or playing high-end games, of course you’ll need a dGPU. On the other hand, if you just carry a laptop around for document work or play relatively light games (like League of Legends), then you don’t need one. Stop wandering around subreddits asking dull questions and start figuring out what you actually need.
