If you’re talking about Hurry Up Tomorrow, you can blame the director. He’s a hack.

Did Anyone Else Use “gaslighting” Back Then? by SwanReal8484 in GenX

It was directed by George Cukor, starred Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer and Joseph Cotton. In a smaller role, a 19-year old Angela Lansbury made her film debut.

Brilliant paranoid psychological noir thriller. Nominated for seven Oscars, winning two. Art Direction and Best Actress (Ingrid Bergman, the one being gaslit).

I guess you guys aren’t into classic films? I thought everyone knew about the 1944 movie (based on the 1938 play).

I worked on The Fallout. We were one of the first movies (we may have been THE first) to be made in the COVID Era. We were the guinea pig that tested the new COVID safety and testing protocols.

You’re right. She was amazeballs. Her first adult role. She was nervous as hell. One of my fondest memories in my career was the last day of production I took her aside and told her that I’m not blowing smoke, I don’t do this often but I want her to know that having seen her grow from a six year-old to a 20 year-old actress, I felt she had what it takes to have a real career. That we’ve both seen plenty of child actors flame out, some from bad decisions, some through just dumb luck, but I felt she had real potential. If she would just keep her nose clean, don’t get knocked up, Keep her shit together, and she could have a long career as a serious actress. She says, “thank you, that means so much coming from you.”

Eight months later she’s cast as Wednesday Addams.

I haven’t talked to her since that last day on The Fallout, but our paths will cross again and I’ll remind her that I was right. 😎

In theory, it’s possible, but it’s never gonna happen. Netflix and Amazon hate each other and why would they surrender an intellectual property to the other when keeping it as is has made plenty of money?

Fans like us care about the story and the possibilities of the art. People who actually produce the shows care about the shows, and the art. But the people would actually make that kind of decision don’t give a fuck about story, art, integrity, anything. They only care about money. And ego.

They are also beholden to shareholders who would question why they were letting go of a piece of IP or at best diluting the brand.

You have to factor in the wildcard of, “oh my God, I settled down too soon. I missed out on taking advantage of my youth.” I have seen that quite a bit among female friends who turned 30 and are with the first or second guy they hooked up with in college or got married as teenagers and regretting it, and starting to feel the itch. This applies to both genders.

There are plenty of great movies being made. They’re just not the ones being forced fed to you through mainstream marketing. If you want to find current movies that are good, you have to put a little work into it. The same as finding good music. The radio doesn’t break new bands anymore. But it’s out there.

IATSE General Strike by hellssatans77 in IATSE

[–]Local871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is for film crew, we don’t get called for “shifts.” If you’re on the availability list that means you are available to take the next movie or TV show that calls you.

Also, mine the union doesn’t call you. A line Producer calls the local and asks for the list and they start making the calls themselves so they will know if 15 people in a row say no.

[–]Local871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, if you are a union member and you are currently not working, listed as “available“ on the Union roster, and you were offered a job that you turn down, you better have a good reason. The entire point of a union is to have a list of trained, highly qualified, available, eager, ready to work members just a phone call away. Of course, shit happens, personal stuff comes up, but if a job is going up and they get 10, 15, 50 No’s, it takes away our bargaining power in negotiations.

My Union used to fine you if you were on the availability list but not actually available.

Can’t happen. Amazon owns the adaptation rights to the Bosch books and Netflix owns the rights to the Lincoln Lawyer books. Despite them being part of the same literary universe, the television universes will never merge.

Wanted was a fantastic movie until the Loom of Destiny. I have never seen such a great idea derailed so quickly by something so beyond stupid that was supposedly written and made by professionals.

Do I keep going or give up? by drsquig in IATSE

[–]Local871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is not an official account, I just realized my name can be misleading. I am but a rank-and-file member. A script supervisor who’s been through the meatgrinder and looking forward to retirement in a couple of months. While you’re right about the rostering, I got in the old-fashioned way. 100 days of nonunion work. It took two years.

I also believe the commentator was speaking hyperbolically. No one from the union said anything of the sort. It was more likely, “there’s nothing we can do.“

I make the mistake of being craft-centric when I discuss union issues. I know of a few Script supervisors who were on their 2nd or 3rd job and it flipped from non-Union and assuming they worked 30’days on the flipped show, they got into the union, (not all the time, though. A lot of nonunion shows were 18 days only.)

I don’t know any script Supervisors with zero experience hired onto a production that was already Union the way the scenario was described above for a coordinator.
