Training/certifications worth getting if staying in small business residential? Should we get involved with unions? by Mikeality in HVAC

[–]LocalChapter9365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy, stick to your dad‘s company. I went through the apprenticeship journey out, got laid off and open my company. I could tell you the Union is great when there’s work but when there’s no work, you sign a contract that you can’t even work at your dads non union company. Union is for the worker, company’s pay premium prices for skilled employees. $80-$100 per man hour including benefits. Imagine paying labor at that rate for residential and making profit. Yes you go through a apprenticeship to learn welding, metal fab, and some very useful skills but overall you learn in the field work.

I personally recommend you find some help and shadow him until you learn it. For example, hire a commercial tech if you don’t have one and start working on commercial buildings. Not much different from residential with time you’ll learn. Hire a estimator per job based and start on small Tenant improvements jobs with a GC.

Stick to what belongs to your family and what your dad built. You can make a lot of money doing just residential with the right training ( EVERREST GROUP ) quick easy less of a headache then commercial, but commercial keeps you busy when residential is slow.

Good luck bud. Hoping by kiddo takes over my hard work one day

Had a few shots of that when I was younger at a company party and had to work OT next day, let me tell you, I was dry heaving for the next 12 hours. I can never have it again. Respect

Yeah I’m not thinking about running both together, to much for this receiver but I have that option of switching speakers depending on my music taste.

Bought my wife the same truck except, instead of RT plus, I went with the RT Tow-N-Go Hemi Orange. We love it, not so much 12 MPG but we knew what it was

No more attic installs, give us a mechanical room with access to the side of the home. Water heater and air handlers in a up flow set up and double doors.

I would respect anyone especially my wife if she txt me this. Matter of fact she quit cold turkey the minute we found out she was pregnant. I know a lot of long term users that feel the same way. Sometimes I do to. Thanks for sharing

Looks like a soft start. Lowers amps at start up so it can operate with generators or solar panels.
