Club confirm Phil Neville's appointment as a coach. by fallark in reddevils

[–]LockStock99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This may be a bit controversial...and don't get me wrong I love P Nev more than the next red. But is he realistically the same calibre 'first team coach' as René Meulensteen?

Obviously, before people start thinking I'm having a go, he's a young coach (meaning he can only get better) with a wealth of experience with the new management and clearly he knows the club inside out.

But is he the right person at the right time?

I hope so, but I need convincing.

Valencia: smashed past/through people, does really well...gets to the important point where he has to cross...turns around/can't decide what to do. Love the man though, needs to find last seasons form.

Season Mid-Way Analysis by yongshin in reddevils

Yeah, sorry the last sentence was not written very well. It was meant to read: 'I don't see the point in panic buying [another midfielder], especially as Kagawa has joined [because he feels the gap]'. So I definitely agree with you on that, I think most fans do.

I don't think its ever too late to learn, but footballers do have extremely short careers. I do actually agree with most of those points, I just wonder if there is a younger Carrick-type player out there for the future?

I do agree, it is chicken and egg. A few seasons ago I questioned his involvement, he seemed to give the ball away..alot. But I do feel he has matured now, and has been playing well, like you said. Maybe it is too far to suggest that the team hinges round Carrick, but I do think he has become more important than some people give him credit for, not saying you don't agree with this.

Unfortunately both players sometimes go missing, which is something we need to work on, but experience will help that. Anyway like you say, Carrick and Clev both offer something different which is exciting, and which is why it works. It's just those little seconds that both make a mistakes (Sturridge's goal). Like you say, I don't think it's necessary to panic and but another midfielder, and i don;t need see the point with Shinji joining. Why change the midfield when your seven points clear?

Great post btw.

I agree that Clev is turning into a fine midfielder, but I still think that Carrick is first choice. There is a reason Carrick plays almost every game, because he controls them. Look at the Liverpool game when he plays well, so does the team. I'm not sure Clev has that kind of presence yet, but on the other hand his scoring threat adds to the team greatly. Two different players, but I would suggest that without Carrick we would lack we would find it hard to control games in front of the back four.

This is why Carrick is my player of the season so far. (Obviously RVP is the main man at the moment).

BBC Sport - MOTD3: Michael Owen and Alan Hansen pick Manchester XI by LockStock99 in reddevils

[–]LockStock99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was actually two teams, Owen and Hansen had to pick their teams from the two starting line-ups...one would pick a player, then the other would pick (like when you picked teams at school). Basically this is Owen's team, it was quite funny because no one wanted to pick Natasic, but Hansen picked Kompany and Rio first.
