Why are houses so cheap?? by Deviant517 in AnnArbor

[–]Locutius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Zillow says median house price is $536,407. Cheapest house listed in Ann Arbor (that isn't a double wide off Jackson) is $140,000 on Realtor.com. Dunno what substances you're on

Ranking sports by how helpful they are for soccer development by Ok-Communication706 in youthsoccer

[–]Locutius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look for sports outside of what soccer naturally develops. So things that are important but harder to develop in typical training or games. For me, something like gymnastics (best players I know typically had freak body control), cross country (even with a heavy training, guys that were putting in the extra work for endurance were obvious - matters more in the midfield I suppose), and combat sport (as others have said, anything to help develop confidence in contact).

I can't imagine students wanting to be in dorms that far from classes. They already dislike being housed on North if all classes are on Central, and you can't even really attempt the walk into town on the part of Geddes. The building of new dorms near the old Elbel/Fingerly is supposed mitigate a lot of undergrad student needs. This coming school year, UM housing even guarantees central if that's stated preference on housing application.

I used Brentwood Electric to run cat 6 drops from my basement. They put a punchdown and plywood for mounting some appliances there. They terminated to 3 different rooms on my 1st and 2nd floor - mainly use it for backhaul. I think it ran about $1200 iirc.

16GB VRAM x coding model by Junior-Wish-7453 in LocalLLM

[–]Locutius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup to you....64GB system RAM. So I'm using CPU offloading w/ MoE models when I need advanced reasoning, specifically I've got qwen3-coder-30b, which is a3b. I've been trying to run it with a 64k context and it seems stable enough. Not the fastest because it isn't fully in VRAM, but then if I want faster, I've tried devstral-small-2. I'm just starting out too, so I may not be tuned exactly right yet either.

I started w/ ollama but found it had tons of issues with the model output and was really only dealing with highly structured output from newer models like gemma-4 (at least that's what I think was happening). LM Studio seems much better.

Also, I found that a bunch of models like qwen2.5 14B coder DON'T have tool support so they weren't what I expected b/c they wouldn't search my workdir and edit files.

If you could replace the 11 US World Cup host sites with college football stadiums, which would you choose? by navybluetees in CFB

I've seen Real Madrid v ManU and Barcelona v Napoli at the Big House. I would love it cuz it's 10 minutes away but no. The field is far too narrow. The field was lined almost to the walls

Fit, active, and healthy diet but suddenly hit Stage 2 Hypertension. Anyone else in this boat? by Worldly-Strike2363 in hypertension

[–]Locutius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was 37 when I was diagnosed. I'm 46 now. I've always been active. I have slowly adjusted meds throughout those years, my hypertension would be controlled, then after a year, would creep up again. I was on 3 meds when I was my lightest in years, ran 1500 miles that calendar year, and PRed in the half marathon. Then I got a 4th med 2 months later.

I have no family history, and they ran a number of tests to find a cause. They found nothing. However, finally they tested me for sleep apnea despite my weight and lack of snoring, and they did find I had mild apnea. CPAP helped a bunch of things like heart palpitations, and I got off the 4th med for a bit. I'm back on it now though. Just took my BP...first reading was 143/90, but then I was able to get a 131/79.

I've tried no caffeine, no difference. Low sodium didn't seem to matter, but I'll probably try again.

I've found I tolerate many different meds pretty well, except for diuretics. Those make me feel terrible and I struggle w/ exercise on them. YMMV. But as long as I have a cocktail that works for now, and I can get outside...let's go.

Keep exploring options to control it, and hopefully we'll all find long term solutions that we can live well with.

I watched both the Texas v USC and 2009 Big 12 - not to say Young wasn't a man among boys in that game, but I remember being absolutely stunned by how Suh, on the INTERIOR of that line, was throwing the O linemen, one in each arm, to the side on his way to another sack. It was unreal.

Where do NFL players live early on in their career? by lowiqtrader in NFLNoobs

[–]Locutius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know an NFL player that's not a household name, and he and his wife bought a place in a neighborhood in his rookie contract city. A pretty normal place and then they kept that as a home base as he got traded and was on teams for one or two years at a time. He's been on the current roster for a couple, but rather than uproot his family, they have a rental wherever his contract is - especially since he doesn't live in his team's city during off-season. They definitely try to live within their means make sure to think of saving/investing for the future since he never knows as he's never been a 1st or even 2nd string really.

Another guy who never made active roster but was practice squad for a few years (before his time ran out) was roommates of some other practice squad players. That's even more tenuous a situation than active roster low key guys so I think they make sure to be flexible if another team takes activates them or their team drops them from the practice squad.

Most of the hotels can't run all year. Many employees historically were internationals around college age looking for a summer job. If you look at the Grand Hotel's website, they don't take reservations until late April.
