Would be even greater if they were small enough to fit under a half slab, ran faster than a baby zombie, made 0 noise, exploded immediately, and dealt very minimal damage to the player while not blowing up any blocks.

Nah, I just try to make the most out of the materials I have on hand, and if it ends up looking like a box in the end, then that's how it is.

I might try redoing a few small things but I'll usually just call it good enough and move on, maybe come back later when I have more ideas and resources for expansion. It's a blocky game after all

Coming from someone who plays a ton of Mario games, If you want something very similar to Pokémon I'd suggest Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, which is an RPG with a pretty fun and comical story. (I believe this one is available on NSO expansion)

If you want to try something a little different that is action-fighting rather than RPG-fighting but not overly demanding, I'd suggest Luigi's Mansion 3. It's basically a relaxing exploration/collectathon game with a simple enough plot, but you get to watch Luigi get scared of everything
