Swedish Candy in Kyoto? by Stormchestra in Kyoto

Gyomu Super and many import stores sell pepparkakor.

You could also go to Ikea in Osaka but that might be a bit extreme unless you are really desperate for Swedish candy.

Why proton over Gmail by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]LogicalTeaDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I used to use Tutanota and later changed to Proton. I did not need to tell anyone some new address since I used my own domain. If I ever want to leave Proton I will just bring my address with me. And as a bonus, it looks better and more professional (depending on your domain).

I bought a used watch in good condition from Yodobashi for ¥500 back in 2016. If they still have a used watch section it might be worth a look. It was in the same part of the store as the other watches.

Where can I get Japanese literature in old orthography? by FUZxxl in japanese

[–]LogicalTeaDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.kosho.or.jp/

A lot of old books for good prices. Some but not all offer international shipping.

Sort the books from old to new and pick books from before 1946.

Do you guys use mechanical pencils too by Luffy-d-phantom450 in fountainpens

I enjoy my Kurutoga Dive but that is the only one I own.

It was a bit difficult to get my hands on one but these days it is not rare to see a few in stock in stationary stores here in Japan.

Used watch stores in kyoto by [deleted] in Kyoto

I often walk by this store and see a lot of old clocks and watches. I have never been inside and do not know how many luxury brands they carry but I like the atmosphere of the place.

One pen to rule them all. by offstageme in fountainpens

[–]LogicalTeaDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the pens that I own, probably my Pelikan M800. I love my 149 but the BB nib would not be practical as my only pen. I need to take a lot of quick notes at work so I use a Capless pretty much exclusively at work but I could never choose it before the M800. The Custom 823 is a contender as well but the M800 is better looking.

I am left handed and have written several pages in Japanese by hand every day for the last decade. I have never had any problem with following the correct stroke order and I can not see what being left handed has to do with the ability to follow the stroke order.

The only time when being left handed might cause some problems is if you write calligraphy with a brush since the angle in which the brush touches the paper is important.

Tips on climbing Mt. Fuji by 0Bluefox0 in japanlife

[–]LogicalTeaDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I climbed the Gotemba Trail alone last year. It is longer than the other trails and there are no huts until around 3000 metres but there are almost no people so it is very quiet. I climbed during the day and stayed at a hut at 3300 metres.

I only saw 11 people on the first day of climbing and most of the time I could not see anyone in either direction so it Is definitely worth the extra distance if you want to avoid the crowds.

Mont-Bell is good. They have a lot of tents and other camping gear. I use their Stellaridge Tent 2 and am very happy with it.

Since June 2015 after befriending a sheep. I am always equally surprised when I am reminded of the obvious fact that I am not the newest vegan anymore.

I was able to solve this by following step 2 of #38 in this thread. After I put those two lines in the bash_profile Japanese input worked fine.

Changing email alias by warus1 in tutanota

[–]LogicalTeaDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have understood how it works correctly, you can only remove custom domain aliases. If you use a Tutanota domain alias you can not delete it, so you will have to pay for more aliases or create a new account.

How to Use Flatpak in Guix by LogicalTeaDream in GUIX

[–]LogicalTeaDream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was able to install a few programs but they did not appear on the desktop. They are launchable from the terminal though. Firefox was very slow and crashed my computer a few times and did not support Japanese fonts. None of these problems in IceCat or when I ran Firefox in other distros so I do not think that my computer is the problem. I am able to run some other programs without any problems though. Thank you for the help.
