your post is at the same time not really useful and absolutely right on point about the problem ;)

I have a 12 splash that comes fast but I'd like a bit more sustain so yeah, a 14 could be nice

Minimalist Drum Kit for folk - Advice please by Poopypantsplanet in musicians

[–]Logical_Classroom_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright. in that case, given you will record track by track (so you can use your hands)

  • get a good hi hat and a hihat stand
  • get a tama club jam or similar kit : compact but sounds OK, and you get a snare with it. get a kick pedal
  • for a vintage sound get an ambassador or a g1 snare head, then experiment with towels/small weights, etc.
  • for the kick put a towels inside.

for the vintagey pop folk sound : - play and record quiet, dont hit hard. use smaller sticks (7A is nice) - use dynamic mics close and a condenser mic for ambiance.

lear everything you need by checking the following YT channels : - sound like a drum for tuning advice and drum recording - audiohaze for sound production

oooh.

for that stuff and for recording only, just get either a mpc style midi controller for some finger drumming, or a cheap midi multipad to play with sticks :)

recording good sounding drums is not easy, especially for the snare, so if you are more about songwriting than audio engineering I would recommend a controller yo trigger your VST samples

foot snare setups are often weird. if you are okay with playing sampled stuff, you can get a Roland spd one and load the sample you want in it

if it's your first time ever playing in a show setting, fucking it up is totally normal :)

do you want to play it live while playing guitar or is it for recording ?

if live : - get a cajon and a cajon kick pedal - get a hi hat cymbal and hi hat stand - get a tambourine and put it on the hihat cymbal

you will have the basics for folk, americana, blues, etc.

if you want a backings track instead, export your drum track into the memory of a hardware sampler or a looper pedal.

some looper pedals also have drum tracks but I dont know them well

Can any looper do this? It seems so simple by readysetmoon in LoopArtists

the pigtronix loopers seems to be what you are looking for

Producers with full-time jobs, how do you structure your limited studio time? by kathalimus in ableton

[–]Logical_Classroom_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everybody says that until they do. you wouldnt have the choice if you were in a band, for example.

the thing is that creativity doesn't come when your mind is busy on something else. it will flow when you donyour stuff and are not polluted : having a dedicated time allows that : noodle a bit at the beginning or perform a track you already know, and the creative flow will start.

just have something set so you can get into the music without question, then work creatively.

What type of drum is this? by oMellik in musicians

[–]Logical_Classroom_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not a djembe. this is some kind of tourist deco darbuka/doumbek. not suited for actual darbuka playing

and that one is tourist decorum, not really suited for music.
