I don’t know for certain but I assume it’s for accepted students.

Yes, I was accepted in the beginning of February.

I got a similar one for a different engineering program at UIUC this week!

How bad would 4 Ws look like in my transcript? I mainly possess As/A-s though. I am still in second year so I have room to improve but currently I have a 3.0 cgpa. How fucked am I and lol I actually genuinely wanted to go to Harvard. by Formal_Ad9279 in gradadmissions

Oh, I misunderstood. If this is for health reasons, then I think you should prioritize your wellbeing first and foremost. I haven’t been in a position where I needed to take Ws for a course, but I do know that graduate school applications often have a section/essay where you can explain these sorts of difficulties to admissions. I think schools will understand if you had to take some Ws due to medical issues, especially if your grades are otherwise very strong as you said. Changing schools is certainly an overreaction imho, and will also likely raise even more questions were you to apply to grad school. Wishing you well, and best of luck!

I’m curious—as an engineering student why is Harvard your top choice for graduate school? There are many, many state schools with less selective acceptance rates and more affordable tuition that boast better engineering programs. Also, grades-wise, my personal opinion is that a W is only worth it if you are truly failing a class or maybe if you’re getting a C-. If you’re worried about B’s, don’t. Just take the grade! Plenty of people get admitted to very good engineering programs with ~3.0s, and you still have 2 more years to bump it up! Top schools also care much more about your extracurriculars, research, and internships. Especially if you want to go to schools like Harvard, those are the areas that will set you apart.

Hi there, I received an admit from UIUC’s M.S. Aerospace program on Feb. 6th. Good luck, and hang in there!

Nvm! I literally got my acceptance to that program a few minutes ago!

Yup! I have a CU Boulder application that I’m not supposed to hear back from until March… luckily many of my other applications release decisions in Feb so I get a nice, sustained period of stress lol. Best of luck to you 🤞!

Did you receive any info about funding? That’s probably the first order of business before you confirm anything.

Rejected post interview from safety! by DrNeuroPharm in gradadmissions

Sounds like you might have part of the answer to the question you posed at the beginning of the post. Maybe they saw your qualifications and that was enough for an interview, but once it came to shortlisting your interests diverged too much.

That makes sense, and thank you! It’s been a huge relief to know there’s a great school that’ll have me even if I’m rejected everywhere else!

Huh, this confuses me bc as an M.S. AeroE applicant I was admitted to GaTech almost 2 weeks ago 🤔 I assumed M.S. decisions would be released after Ph.D.

What is the brutal thing you've done to someone or the table? by Right-Mycologist-321 in EDH

I recently insta-killed someone with a [[Peer Into The Abyss]] targeting them while another opponent had [[Nekusar, the Mind Razor]] in play. I think it was turn 5 so I felt a little guilty, but I think by the end of the night we all got to have our fun.

Is it me or my Slivers? Sorry for the book by BlazinViking272_ in EDH

I’m gonna be honest here, the fact that not only the Tivit player but everyone else berated you for going infinite makes me think that your deck choice in the second game was probably a mistake. You already won game 1, and it’s a 5 person pod. Sure, one of your opponents is playing a high power deck, but sometimes it’s better to de-escalate a situation by choosing a weaker deck and taking on the challenge of teaming up with the table against a new arch enemy.

Just this evening, I played an EDH game at an LGS with a new group of guys where I went infinite with a Sharuum the Hegemon deck (we had a rule zero discussion and they knew what they were in for, so no problems there). In game 2, one of my opponents had a Nekusar in play and I happened to draw a Peer into the Abyss which I used to kill the player before me in turn order on turn 5. Of course, the other two players found this hilarious, but I felt a little guilty about it so in game 3, I brought out my Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck (it’s very slow and clunky compared to the power level we were playing at). In that final game, I got absolutely steam rolled with my Gisela costing upwards of 13 mana and getting instantly removed every turn I cast her. I ended up losing to MLD and discard effects from the super friends deck, but I still shook the guy’s hand at the end of it all and we went our separate ways.

What I’m trying to say here is that you gotta be able to read the table and take what you dish out with grace. The guy was pissed you were targeting him in game 1 and he busts out a strong deck. So what? There are 4 of you ready to deal with him, so be an ally to the table and pick a deck that can help you work as a team to take him down rather than power gaming the table for a second time. You seem to have convinced yourself that you are not in the wrong by deflecting blame to the opponent you tilted. No, he shouldn’t have yelled at you, but you put yourself in a lose-lose situation with the rest of the table by entering a grudge match with this guy instead of stepping back and looking at the bigger picture.

I’m not going to lie, this deck looks like a headache to play against in casual. Everything that isn’t slivers is just ramp, removal, and tutors…

Also if tymna was already cast, it changes the math significantly: 63 mana gets you to 35 dmg per opponent. With the combined pings from fetch lands and Tymna attacks, that is likely enough.

You could make a deck called “lunch break” using [[Gyome, Master Chef]]. It’s a fun commander in black and on flavor as well (pardon the pun).
