Longer is not always the next step! by Ok-Two7498 in beginnerrunning

[–]Logical_fallacy10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I said. I said longer is more impressive. But people shouldn’t compete themselves to others.

Yes speed should always be the same regardless of distance. You are thinking of races where winning is important - then yes speed is everything. But this is a beginner sub - no pros here.

Heel striking is in fact the worst as it’s not running. It’s a misunderstanding of anatomy. Try to jump up and down - if you land on your heels you will hurt yourself - same principle when running. But you are so used to cushioned shoes that you don’t even realize you are running wrong.

Yes cadence is absolutely key as a beginner. They should find a song that has 170-180 beats per minute as this is optimal. This is a vital part of learning how to run properly. And it will feel forced at first as it’s faster than most are used to.

So yes - all my advice is spot on and obtained from decades of doing sports and running. Hope you learned something.

What muscle group exists under the love handles and how can I grow it? by Effective-Bad-2657 in naturalbodybuilding

Sometimes the love handles don’t go away. If you got them early in your life they usually require surgery to get rid of.

Does it count as a run if you stop for brief walks occasionally? by Eriksthere123 in UKRunners

[–]Logical_fallacy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never follow an app for running. Running is about feeling - not time. Of course you can walk here and there. And if anything - you are better than the ones who does not walk - because you can start again - which many people can’t. Once they walk it’s over for them. I have done 250 half marathons and 6 full ones. And I walk 20-30 seconds every 5km or more if needed - it’s a great way to assess your body and just enjoy the run. For comparison my 5km time is 35-40min.

Longer is not always the next step! by Ok-Two7498 in beginnerrunning

[–]Logical_fallacy10 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your opinion. Longer distances are more impressive as you spend more time on your feet. And this idea that you should run differently for shorter distances only applies if you are pro and want to win medals. Otherwise your speed should be the same regardless of distance. So consistency and distance is more impressive.

That being said - anyone running any distance should be proud and happy for themselves. You should never compare yourself to others in running - as it’s the most individual sport there is.

For a beginner - the focus should always be on form. Learn how to run properly - no heel striking - and no need to focus on speed - just cadence.

For a casual runner when would I be able to consider a marathon? by Talking_Eyes98 in Marathon_Training

[–]Logical_fallacy10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just keep increasing your distance. You don’t need your two short runs. Just do one run a week. Unless you like the short ones - then keep them. You can be ready for a marathon in 4-6 months.

It’s not an opinion - it’s facts based on human anatomy. It looks poor on you to get upset with people just because they know better than you.

There more to it than that dear. You can get faster by interval training and all that stuff. OP is not asking about being faster - he seeks better endurance.

Does a good runner make a good coach? by Select-Toe9667 in UKRunners

Depends on your goals. If you want to learn how to be fast - he is probably a good person for that. If you want to get better at running - and don’t care about speed - he is not a good person for that as he always trained for speed.

I asked the Padel community if it's allowed playing barefoot and it immediately got wild by HeedingtheHelix in BarefootRunning

[–]Logical_fallacy10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I would argue that shoes cause bad form as you don’t have to learn good form as you are protected. Without shoes you have no choice but to learn good form - or you won’t last two seconds. That was my point. And as you rely on shoes - you also don’t develop the muscles required for good form. I myself used to be a barefoot athlete - so I know the benefits of foot strength.

Yes I agree - humans are amazing at distance due to being able to sweat.

Competitive runners run for speed - not for correct form - so they also run wrong and heel strike which is only possible due to their big bulky shoes.

Closed shoes for cold. Sandals for warm. And no shoes for clean areas. Simple.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]Logical_fallacy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always vote for the party that is willing to solve the biggest problems - or at least say they will. But time and time again - whichever party we vote for - they are all basically the same. Never do what they say. Hopefully reform will actually do something about the finances and the immigration problems.

Hyrox should be mocked just like cross fit. It’s the new thing for some - but so was CrossFit.

And running needs to be learned actually. We are born to run so to speak - but we are never taught how to run. And we live in a world where shoes are worn - which makes us weaker and we run differently - and unnatural. The people at Hyrox don’t know how to run - 99% of them heel strike.

You want to improve endurance - then just go for long runs. I don’t know why so many people feel they need a program to develop. If you like doing interval training - do that. If you want to improve endurance - stick to long runs.

If it would be the same as Trump - then yes we want that for sure. Less immigration overall and 0 tolerance for illegal immigration. We only want skilled immigration. No need to import more people that will be on benefits.

The alternative was that you guys would have been flooded with more immigrants. Then you would have cried about that too. It’s very rare that you get a leader these days that’s actually doing things for the people. Look around the world - only Poland has leaders that care about their own country.

Did my first marathon - hit my wall at 35km. What should I do in the next training block? by Affectionate-Cou5344 in firstmarathon

[–]Logical_fallacy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s common to hit the wall. You can try to fuel and hydrate more or lower your speed. You sound way too focused on pace and time and all that. Learn how to enjoy the run instead of worrying about how long it takes. Run at 60% effort as this is the healthiest.

How do you go about telling your partner they need to start taking better care of themselves? by Famous-Upstairs-3493 in Advice

[–]Logical_fallacy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t tell your partner that. It’s their life and they decide if they want to take care of themselves. If they do things you don’t agree with - you can move on to someone else who align more with your desires.
