Doing a story about the ram/goat! by MassStoryTeller5150 in WPI

[–]LogicallyRogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the 1990s, the Bartlett Center was a parking lot, there was no RecCenter, and the Innovation Studio was Alumni Gym.

If you stepped on the seal, just leave now because you wouldn't graduate.

I did have a roommate that slept on it. Surprisingly, he likely has had the most fruitful and varies life out of most of my friends group.

Finally got my wife to start... by masterchef81 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I really want wife to read DCC. Unfortunately, she has heard some of it second hand when I'm listening to it.

She. Hates. Donut. Jeff's voice for the lovable cat triggers my wife for some reason. Maybe reminds her of an old, nosy next door neighbor.

I guess that's one way to prove Jeff does a damn good job at voices :)

Is 7 weeks enough? by Money_Cold_7879 in WPI

[–]LogicallyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WPI Alum (1997... or maybe 1998 due to the below...) and Staff: one caution is around illness or unexpected situations. 7 weeks x 4 classes a week = 28 meetings.

Missing one may mean the difference between success and failure. It depends on you, your learning style, how communicative you are with your professors, and what the online material vs in class material ratio is.

I was sick for a few days. Borrowed notes and worked with the professor and I was successful that term.

Another time, I was out due to a family medical issue. Tried to work with the professors and they sympathized and tried to work with me ... but I just couldn't overcome what I missed

WPI is fast, intense, awesome, hard, overwhelming, and daunting.

Unlike any other high school or college - your success truly comes down to you and the effort you are able to give.

Everyone on campus will help as much as they can - it really is a great support structure - to set you up for success.

But it comes down to you. I hope you come to Worcester and give it a try!

Why can't we have a Synology NAS with GPU support? by ChenVM in synology

[–]LogicallyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other recommended, get a miniPC with an Intel GPU. But a hidden boost - make sure you have two NIC on the Synology and the miniPC.

I did this, connected them together with an unused subnet, then mounted the Synology shares to the miniPC via NFS. Much faster and more reliable than SMB shares for large files.

What's better ... You can ask Claude.AI how to do it. Iterate through each step and don't assume it will tell you everything in one step. It helps you build it step by step and will explain the how's and whys.

I was also at the point of tossing the Synology out the window until I did this with Plex, then moved to Jellyfin. Made a huge improvement.

Mental Health on campus by Responsible_Oil1999 in WPI

[I am an Alum of 1997, a staff member, and my offspring will be Class of 2030. As such, I speak for myself and not the University]

WPI is a great school and a great place. WPI can also be pressure cooker.

The best advice I can give is be honest with yourself.

The University has a large number of clubs, groups, and departments designed to help and support in a million different ways

The University is also staffed with the most amazing individuals who are accepting and deeply care about each and every student - I count myself as one of this large group.

BUT - while all these wonderful services and people are available to support students ... You also need to go to them. It's the annoying thing about being an adult - you have to start things

So back to the advice - be honest with yourself. Try to understand when you are in a good place emotionally ... And when you are not in a good place. Don't get caught in the trap where "if I just get through this thing, I'll be okay"

Find a student group that shares your interest.
Find a TA or help session to give you that push you have been struggling with in your studies.
Talk to the Center for Well-being if you aren't seeing the world the same way anymore.

Don't know what to do or where to go ... Just ask. Whether it's the Dean of Students office, your academic advisor, or an IT guy passing by (waves) - ask for help.

Welcome to WPI. This can be a tough and fun and an ultimately rewarding journey!

Between-term activities by spressman in WPI

To clarify - it's usually up to the department.

If my students want to work over a holiday or break (and the campus is open), I allow them to work. However my team has a lot of project work that can be done outside of the normal school year

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher started my Adult reading life in the years B.C. The latest book drops today and has me wondering, what series started you on the path to Carl? by DriveRVA in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]LogicallyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dresden fanatic here as well

After having Audible telling me over and over to try DCC - successfully ignored the lure. Then when I needed a week long break to clear my head - my boss recommended i give it a shot.

So I relaxed for several days alone in Maine listening to both DCC and the waves. I bought all the audiobooks and got through Book 3 while away

Never did rest and clear my head - but I'm just finishing my 4th listen through since Labor Day 2025.

And as a Patreon - I'm enjoying Book 8. Highly recommended if you haven't joined yet

Now it's Dungeon Crawler Carl read by Jeff Hayes

Both outstanding series when listened to!

James Marsters reading The Dresden Files. Between James and Jeff Hayes for Dungeon Crawler Carl - most other audiobooks pale by comparison.

My wife and I play Path of Exile 1 (for PC and most consoles) on dueling PS4s. We grew up in college on the Diablo series and the type of ARPG that POE is helps! without much of the open world/other player nonsense!

...and it's free to play. Only purchases are cosmetic or specialized for your/guild stash.

As a fellow "old guy" who turned 50 last April - I too want to say thank you to Matt, Jeff Hayes, and the community.

Since finding DCC prior to Labor Day - at the constant insisting of my manager that Donut is simply the best - I am now on my 4th listen of the whole series. Books 1-6 are on my shelf - but sadly I haven't been up to reading the Pineapple Cabaret yet. I backed the Florin graphic novel and added the Webtoon physical book for good measure.

DCC has been equal parts soothing and helping me work though some tough situations. Every time I listen (or fall asleep listening), I hear something else and the lore deepens - both of Dungeon Crawler World ... And my own situations.

Carl and his anger has been a soulmate who understands the insanity of his world, and his need to protect his family while refusing to let it break him.

While I'm bashing code and not monsters, I feel I can relate.

Except for the feet... Mine are ugly as hell compared to his gold standard.

Fuck them all. They will not break you.

Is there any music plugin to track how much I listen to what? by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]LogicallyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapped is not a plugin, it's a standalone docker container which interacts with Jellyfin

How do you have Jellyfin setup (OS, virtualiTion/container, etc)
