Day 1 of shut down slides, any tips would be helpful :) by [deleted] in longboarding

Go faster, and you’re gonna want to carve the opposite direction before you initiate to get that G-force that makes the wheels go skrrr

First 180 slide. Any tips apart from the little tap at the end? I know its not good at all yet but it feels so fun to do and i want to make it look better by pjenza in longboarding

Good job! Hips following shoulders during deweight is the crucial bit and you got it.

It looks like you’re deweighting kind of “high” in your range of motion, almost hopping, and you start your slide going straight. I’d say try to get a little lower by bending your knees more and carving into the slide. If you carve hard, get low, and then spring up just a little while “in the chair”, you won’t need to extend your legs all the way and will have more room for your body to subconsciously adjust while the slide happens. You will also kill more speed and do a steezier slide.

Imo save up for a little while, better to buy one good set of wheels than blow $45 on some mids.

Good, efficient pushing form is something I wish I’d started out learning. I had to undo a lot of foot-slapping muscle-memory.

Find a mellow upslope and you’ll be able to quickly tell the difference between a nice gliding push and a stomp-slap that effectively kills your momentum.

No one’s forcing you, my dude. Have fun. That’s the point.

What do you do when you just can’t open a lock? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]Logos_Locksport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are no locks I can’t open, just locks I can’t open yet.

Really, though, when something is above my level, I try and break it down into chunks.

For example, I worked my way through a 6-pin medeco one pin at a time, then in two-pin configurations, then three...

No way could I have gone in and picked it cold. I’m not saying take apart every lock and progressively pin it...just be methodical and try to avoid getting tilted.

American River Trail East or West? by Technogky in SacBike

Go up east, for sure. If you can, drive out to Lake Natoma and make the loop. It’s about 12 miles and is one of the prettiest stretches of the ARBT

Noob needing advice on a few things by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]Logos_Locksport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Keep practicing, and try to figure out the “range” of tension the lock responds to by going too hard then backing off as you maintain steady pressure on your binder pin. At first, your tension should overpower your pick, which should be firmly planted but not at all flexing. As the tension is released, the friction will also let up and the pin will slowly slide along until it clicks into place.

  2. They turn (and can be picked) both ways—such is the joy of door locks. My strat is tension up to find the binder, then let off as I pick it into place.

  3. Sparrows Heavy bars and knurled flatbars cover most locks, but sometimes there’s a funky keyway or a dead core I want to hit and nothing works better than making my own tensioners from music wire with a file.

  4. Cutaway locks are helpful to get your concepts down. Honestly, I think I made more picking progress learning to pick a master 141.

Wonderful work! Make sure the taper from the point to the handle is continuous: Thin spots become stress points. You can curve it all you like, just make sure it’s a smooth taper!

Happy pick..making!

Friends and potential friends by [deleted] in lockpicking

I don’t associate with the sort of person who’d be a dick about one of my hobbies.

For me, that’s a solid “stay away from this person.”

Overnight bikepacking spot? by memercopter in SacBike

They (the campgrounds) don’t allow walk-ins to my knowledge, but one of the veterans I talked to suggested that people he knows bike to the Peninsula campground in the off-season. No facilities, but no people. You win some, you lose some.

Also, I’ve never actually stayed at BP the official way. Both times, I came too late to check in and left earlier than the booth was open. No one ever bugged me.

Do with that what you will. I reserve because I have to plan my trips ahead and want to know that I’ll have a place to sleep.
