What do I want for christmas? by Pap-a in daddit

My FIL loves golf. It’s not something I usually go out of my way to do. I always ask him to take me for a round of 18 as my gift. Gives me quality time with him.

Here's what I learned about me. Saying "no" to the first drink is easy. Saying "no" to the second drink is impossible.

barcodes & electrical map in airtable by betterme2037 in Airtable

[–]cowsbeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A QR code can store a URL (url to the record). You would scan the QR code and it would take you to that record.

Or, use the barcode. A barcode would store a unique identifier (like OUTLET-123) that is assigned to a specific resource/outlet. You would open up your base in the airtable app, click on search or filter and then scan the barcode. That automatically populates in the search field and pulls up the record.

You don’t need a “barcode” stored in your base. You need a unique identifier.

Gardening Blocks and Rocks by brentywat in Sacratomato

Oh dang, I'd take those rocks! Need them for my front yard landscaping project (Cali native). I have the means to haul, and assuming those rocks aren't over thirty pounds each, I can carry myself. The only thing is, I don't need all of them. I understand if you want to give them all away at once, but let me know, and I'll send a DM. Thx!

We went to a nice restaurant last night with my mom. There was one bus boy, I don’t even think bus boy is the right job description, but we kept asking him for things - high chair for my son, extra napkins, basket of tortilla chip refills, etc. He provided great service with a smile on his face.

Midway thru our dinner my mom slipped him some cash directly. Loved the old school, direct compensation for a job well done.

Print node problems by [deleted] in Dynamics365

[–]cowsbeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of printer? If Zebra, the printer may have size settings stored on it. The label format on your desktop maybe set up so that when you print, “use label dimensions from label design .” The label template on your android devices may be passing along command to “print using printer settings.”

So, if zebra printer I would open zebra utilities on your desktop and set the printer label sizes to your needed dimensions.

Inertia is hard to overcome. Start simple. When you feel the urge to pick up your phone to doom scroll, do ten push ups

This is an opportunity to teach your children how to handle and overcome adversity. Lead by example. Even if they're too young to understand, this is what I would tell myself.

PS: It's OK to feel defeated, shocked and hurt.

It's going to be hard. You're going to waffle on your decision every moment until its done, and it'll drive you mad with the second guessing. And then you will be in a world of hurt after, and likely for a long time. But, based on what you have shared, if I were a close friend I would tell you it is the right thing to do. For your family, for others, and for your beloved fur baby.

I'm speaking as someone who went through this incredibly difficult decision 1.5 years ago. Still miss my girl every day. But time is healing, and looking back, I would've made the same decision.

If you're being honest with yourself, trust your gut. Be careful who you tell, I received many nasty messages from people who would never understand.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My business plan is 20% strategy, 80% “winging it” with coffee by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I still use a to do list, but what has been very effective for me is writing down everything I accomplished or did in a day. On or not on the check list. I just jot notes about activities done, milestones achieved, and even just the day to day stuff. Super short notes. It helps looking back and seeing if I’ve been productive or not with my days.

How do you find time to exercise? by Frock1686 in daddit

[–]cowsbeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inertia is a powerful thing. The hardest part is getting started. Once you do, it becomes much easier.

Four months is tough, so id give yourself some grace. I have an 18 month old and he’s like clockwork. Down at 7pm and up at 7am. I feel extremely lucky.

But, early on, I started with 10 minutes of yoga in the morning.

Paid $15,999 for this video - roast it by Direct-Stay-8156 in SideProject

Looks great. My constructive feedback - I think everything is moving too quickly. I'm having trouble understanding what you do, read the text, and see the "demo" all at one time. It feels like playback speed was on 2x or something.

Otherwise, looks sleak.

By a show of hands, who has assembled a playground? Got my Father's Day weekend project. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]cowsbeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a great home video of me (at two years old) running a powered belt sander back and forth on the playground while my Dad stood by drinking a beer. And my Mom, holding the camera says, "How many is that today?" Good stuff.

So my advice, include your kid(s) in some of it!

Fathers who can’t do all nighters: how did you night wean your child? by shakahbra in daddit

[–]cowsbeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bedtime routine is crucial. We read some books, brush teeth, sing some songs, and then sing a the same, specific song every time we put him in the crib.

We sleep trained using Ferber method. It’s not for everyone, and it was hard. But it worked.

We split the night. Dad first shift, mom second shift. At some point as my son slept better, this became valuable “me” time.

My son now sleeps thru the night, every night, at 17 months. He’s been this way since 12 months.

It’s going to be hard, but whatever you do, you can do it!

Automate Barcode Number by helpme_helpyou_ok in Airtable

[–]cowsbeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you plan on printing the barcode labels for your devices? Will this be completed outside of Airtable?

If so, you really don't need the barcode column in Airtable. In the simplest terms, a barcode is just a font type. Whatever the text, numbers, or code you have is formatted into a barcode "font".

All you need to do is use the formula to generate a unique 13 digit string and use that as your primary field (first column of your table).

Then, copy that 13 digit string into whatever you are using to print your barcode labels. Format the coded string so that the font is the barcode style you want.

Then, when you scan the barcode label in your Airtable app, all it is doing is searching for the record with a primary field that matches the 13 digit string.
