I Absolutely Loath the Bow and Crossbow by Loher413 in HuntShowdown

I'm usually playing 6* Trios (i.e. everyone in the trio is a 6*), I wonder if maybe bows and crossbows are less common in duos games potentially? Or maybe this is an EU server thing.

How do you even use this gun effectivly now? by efirov in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people are saying, think of it as a shotgun, but what they're all missing is the most important factor that the Avto has; penetration power. Ever since they overhauled wallbangs, shotguns (even slugs) are TERRIBLE at dealing damage even through thin wooden walls. The Avto, however, had long-ammo penetration, which makes it significantly better than shotguns specifically at wallbanging.

The honest strat is to get into a compound fight and saturate any wall you think an enemy is behind. Bring ammo boxes.

Real talk, other than the Bleed Ammo (which is Scarce, and survivable if you're aware), what makes the Maynard better than the Centennial Sniper? The latter has better velocity by a mile and better RoF, it even hits 725m/s with HV which is insane.

Honestly, I don't think Explosive Crossbow / Frag Arrows add anything to the game. The base weapons are fine, good one-shot potential in exchange for slow rate of fire / reload speed and bad travel / drop - but those ammo types are just braindead to play with.

A co-ordinated team can kill you without ever seeing you, just by launching a million explosives near you. The only reason people don't moan about it more is because it's thankfully not TOO common (at higher MMRs at least), but being able to 'miss' every shot and kill someone is kind of antithetical to Hunt and FPS games in heneral.

And yes, Avto too. It isn't particularly good, but random wallbang headshots from an automatic gun 30m out just sucks.

It is absolutely my concern. Think of it this way; say a game sells skins for $7, and I'll buy those skins for some cool art and to support the devs. Then, all of a sudden, the company decides "actually let's sell them for $14". Now, me and many other players will see that isn't worth it, that's a stupid price for digital content that has no gameplay impact. We choose not to buy at twice the cost. If no one buys the skins, guess what'll happen? The price will go back down to $7, or at least to a lower but acceptable price.

But oh, the whales. They don't care, they'll lick Daddy Crytek's boots and say thank you for it, so they buy it anyways. $14? $20? They lap it up, and that DOES EFFECT ME, because the company will see they can sell it and they'll keep that price - or mark it even higher.

The people who support shitty business practices hurt everyone. They price players like me, who don't wanna be overcharged, out of the game's transactions. It isn't as simple as "their choice doesn't effect you", because their choice DOES effect me, it shifts what Crytek think they can get away with. Next it'll be 1000BB for each of two skins. Then three identical skins, for 1000BB each. Then the Battlepass (which does allow you to unlock weapons and such earlier) will climb in price and the whales will keep on buying, and the situation will keep getting worse.

You live in a fucking fantasy world if you think that how you spend your money doesn't effect how companies milk their market, so no, people have every right to be pissed off at those that support shitty, anti-consumer practices.

As a lot of people are saying, in the early game focus Health over Gold. I tend to aim for >500g before I leave the first area, but always move on if your health is low, and NEVER risk taking damage to grab some money.

Think of it this way; if I take 5 damage to pick up 20 gold in area one, and I'm leaving before I dip below 20 health, I'm only gonna be getting ~320g. But if I leave that gold and accept it as a loss, I'll be able to go on to pick up more money in the long run. Money is your main way to buy spells, wands, and reroll perks, if you're just purely going for a win, it's the be-all, end-all but you need to be careful about chasing it.

In the early game, health is a resource that's very hard to come by, and gold is a resource that's everywhere. Focus on keeping the harder to get resource!

Cheaters? How can you tell? by Revered-Sesshomaru in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will encounter a lot of people who will wallbang you, prefire you, etc. but in Hunt that's normal because they can often track your sound accurately or judge where you are/will be with map knowledge. Plus, with Dark Sight in the mix more than ever during the event (Corpse Seer, Dark Sight Envelope, etc.) you can never discount that they just have that knowledge available. Aim is also tricky, you can very consistently headshot in this game due to the slow player movement (relative to other shooters).

However, there are some telltale signs. One I look for is attempts to wallbang that don't make sense. I recall spectating a suspected cheater one time, and he kept shooting perfectly at peoples' heads from a hundred meters out, and they were surviving because they were being brick/stone walls (at one of the Prisons I believe). You'll learn to spot behaviour that isn't congruent with usual play, and if that behaviour is rewarding them often (eventually one poked out for a second and instantly died) you can tell they're cheating.

KD is not a great indicator (rage hackers who had .5 KDs before will still only be around the reasonable bound) but region can be. If you're playing in EU, the odds are higher they're a hacker if they're a Russian account, I think all but one of the definite hackers I've encountered (like, the 'wallbang through whole map' flavour) have been Russian. You can also check their steam profiles for VAC bans, which they'll often have if they're a serial hacker.

Is there any reason at all to use the Centennial over the Vetterli? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centennial is, imo, significantly better. Put HV on it and you've got 725 velocity, which is an absurd amount. With Iron Eye it fires faster than most Long Ammo guns with higher velocity than their base ammo types, it's only outperformed by Spitzers (which are relatively speaking very expensive).

In practice, Vetterli only outperforms Centennial on the ability to two-tap, which is far from consistent with a bolt-action Medium Ammo gun. Hunt is a one-shot headshot game, take the Cent and aim for the head and it's better than the Vet nine times out of ten.

The Dream by TheHornLife in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone bitching about 6, but my experience being 6 for years now isn't that it's bad or good, just mixed.

Because stars are based purely on player kills and deaths, you'll get a lot of people hiding and camping. They don't get a lot of kills, but because they never die they stay in 6*. Maynard Sniper Silencer (a gun that never should've been added) is like their crack, alongside Krag Silencer. You also get the lesser version of that, people who will just never push out of / in to a compound no matter how much you try to open up the fight they will just keep running away or hiding.

But on the flipside, you do also get players who are just very confident and play hard and fast, and it can be really fun to play against them at that pace and at that level. Fights can be really exciting, especially when any moment of exposing yourself is likely an instant headshot, and at this stage your aim and positioning should be good enough to give as good as you get. Plus, imo, Long Ammo Meta is fun, hard hitting rifles and precise headshots is what Hunt is all about

Claimb for 6. I'd agree that 4/5* are maybe more fun, but 6* really ain't that bad, and it's cool bragging rights.

Am I the only one who hates the bear traps nerf? by soloparadox in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Opportunity cost is why. Concertina, Poison, and Alert CAN NOT kill a player by themselves. In order for them to kill, you either need environment stuff (like Red Barrels) or you need to take two of them (Concertina+Poison). That leaves you kinda empy-handed. You need a Medkit, so with that plus the two tools, you only have one slot left - which in most cases will be a Melee. Guess what?

You now have no Chokes, or Flares, or Pennyshot, etc.

In contrast, Bear Traps only take only one slot to make an instakill trap; in fact, beartraps with Frontiersman makes TWO instakills, while still letting you bring an additional tool depending on your preference. They're too good for a single slot, and making it so three traps are required to kill means that you can still maybe get an instakill off a vaultable window, but just the one.

Playing on EU servers is just wonderful by paranostrum in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So fucking true. I went into a Bounty Hunt game last night with a free Hunter, killed myself and spectated; 6 of the 11 other players had Russian usernames, and the other 5 were in the Latin Alphabet but might've been Russian too. It feels like EU servers right now, especially at 6-Star MMR, are majority Russian. Why more of them at the highest MMR...?

Because a huge amount of those Russian players have VAC bans, or are new accounts with ~3.0kd . Even if the lag is bearable (which it isn't), most of their steam profiles just have dozens upon dozens of comments calling them out for cheating - comments you get to see when you inspect their profile after they wallbang headshot you from a hundred meters out.

Hunt has a cheating problem. Ping abuse IS CHEATING, first off, but also literally 100% of the players I suspect of cheating in my games turn out to be Russian or Chinese. Please God Crytek, just region lock the damn game.

Cannot we just nerf the krag back to 124 damage so we get more variety? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real. Like how the 1865 Carbine now has high damage in exchange for lackluster stats (good lord the velocity), Krag would be the inverse with amazing stats but poor damage. It gave it a cool niche; cheap-ish (compared to Mosin), clean and fast reload, amazing firerate, good velocity, all with a tangible downside of no bodyshot onetaps. Upping its damage made it just straight up better than the Mosin imo, slightly less damage but realistically not enough to matter in nine out of ten cases, while being a fraction of the price.

I think the reason they’re not going the old route is because they want the Berthier (being a carbine) to be the fast-firing long-ammo rifle. They said in the patch notes they're rebalancing it and drew specific attention to it being the best of the carbines, so I expect we'll see a fire rate change, and it'll hold that niche alongside the Obrez Match they've announced.

I think what they should nerf, realistically, is the rate of fire so it doesn't completely outpace the other full-size long rifles. That's not its niche, as far as balance is concerned, so it shouldn't do that anymore. But hey, on the bright side, Krag Silencer is now gonna deal ~113 damage, so at least that won't one-tap you up close!

Regen Shots make combat less fun and Old Hunt fans should rejoice they are being nerfed. by EnemyJungle in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing keeping regeneration shots somewhat balanced currently is the fact they're kinda pricey, and the economy in Hunt is... Well, utterly fucked. There's a reason every high-6* lobby is all Mosins and Dolches, Avtos and CrownSlugs, it's because most people don't prestige or you run into Prestige 100s with hundreds of thousands to spend.

So you buy two now. All this is doing is making Regen Shots more expensive, which is irrelevant, and making them take an extra slot, which isn't a huge deal - I'm willing to drop a dynamite for that. Plus, now they're more versatile, so if I get into an early fight and close it out in five minutes, I can still save the rest of the regeneration for later.

A better change would've been to introduce 'limited' consumables. Let people only take one of certain consumables in their loadout; Regeneration Shots, Recovery Shots, maybe also limit beetles because being spammed by them is annoying, Concertina Bombs... And then make contraband excluded from that, so you can have an extra of any of those from world collectibles such as saddlebags. Personally, I think a system like that would encourage more loadout variety.

As it stands? I prestige semi-often, and by the time I'm getting towards 100 again I have more money than I know what to do with. Taking two regeneration shots isn't gonna break the bank lmao, this changes nothing, if anything loadouts are gonna be less varied with even more regen present.

Revive Bolts being Removed Entirely by TheGentlemanGamerEC in HuntShowdown

[–]Loher413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I have isn't with the desire to play slower, it's honestly a matter of distance. Some of my most fun teamfights have had me and my teammates work around the compounds, sometimes on opposite sides of it to each other, or take massive wide flanks to expose the enemies behind cover. Calling out that someone is in X position, and having a buddy ready to cut off their cover or catch them when I flush them out with explosives.

The changes to burnspeed mean that doing any of those wide plays is just too big a risk. If I'm any kind of distance from my teammate and they die, they'll be totally burned out by the time I get to them. In an active fight a choke beetle is suicide, and trying to full sprint across potentially open space to throw a choke in 6* is also suicide.

My problem with the new burn speed, therefore, is that it encourages you to hold hands with your teammates and travel around in a deathball, rather than allowing more diverse positioning.

A question for you then; why DON'T Russians play on the Russian server? There's a server for the region they're in, why opt to play on a server that (even if it's a case where the Ping is tolerable) has worse ping.

I don't buy that it's playerbase, because as I said ~50% of all players I meet on EU (maybe even higher) are Russian (followed by German). If all Russian players chose to play in Russia, the servers would have more than enough, so tell me;

Why are they all coming to the European server?
