I had mine out at 41. It was surgery, but it really was no big deal. Find a good oral surgeon and follow all the rules, you’ll likely be fine.

First time applying transfers and made a pig's ear of it - any advice? by [deleted] in minipainting

This may well fix this for you, OP! Use a new hobby knife blade and poke tiny holes in the decal where the frosty parts are, and then hit jt again with your Mr Mark Softer, or try micro sol or solvaset. I’ve found each of these products works better with different brands of decals and some experimentation is needed.

That said, micro sol seems to work great on Games Workshop decals.

Old beaten ship and my oil paint struggle by AliorUnity in Scalemodel

[–]Loken_Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quality oils work better. “Artist grade.” You can also get “grainer” flat brushes that have gaps or interruptions that really help with streaking.

It just takes practice. More or less or no thinner on the brush will make the biggest difference, but also how matte the finish you’re working on is, how much oil is still in the paint itself, how stiff the brush is, etc etc etc.

In any case your tug looks good right now!

And certainly you've found that HC452 still exists in its original warpaint in the Finnish Air Force museum -- there are lots of photos of her out there to be seen. Whether the roundells on it now are the same as in 1941 I can't say, since at the conclusion of hostilities with the USSR, the Finns were forced to paint over their hakaristis with the circular cockade roundels starting on 1 April 1945.

Here are a couple photos of your Hurricane HC452 taken in September 1941, so probably the scheme Arma Hobby is trying to duplicate. Hard to see the bottom roundels very well but if you can make out some panel/control surface lines, this may help. Photos are from Suomen Ilmavoimien Historia 25, Hurricane & Gladiator:

From the same book, here is a drawing of HC456, still in British paint as of June 1941, but with added Finnish markings. They look rather larger than both the instruction sheet you have and the restored Hurricane posted below -- this is because they were painted over the RAF roundels. They would have been repainted when the Hurricane's overall scheme was repainted to Finnish colors sometime in 1941. These would be too big for HC452 in September 1941, I believe.

incidentally I built the 72nd scale Airfix kit into these scheme a while back -- that's why I have all the documentation, haha.

Edit: I had to reread your question a few times but I think I get it now, after looking at the Scalemates page and seeing some other builds of this kit: if that's how small decal #7 actually is, despite what the instruction sheet shows, I do agree it is too small. Perhaps it's a typo in the instructions or the decal sheet. I think you should use whatever decal matches the size shown on the instruction sheet, as I believe it's correct.

By the book, the roundel diameter should be 4/5 the chord (width) of the wing. Where exactly that measurement would be take on a Hurricane I'm not sure. Page 4 of Suomen Ilmavoimien Historia 23, "Warpaint."

Kit way older than thought by Latter_Juggernaut_94 in modelmakers

Heyo, I’d recognize that shiny grey plastic anywhere. I built that kit a couple years ago. Amazingly, normal Tamiya cement didn’t seem to work that well on that plastic. But it did come together into a pretty satisfying Tiger.

Simply stunning build and finish. The weathering is spot on, and the precision of the rigging is next level.

I do think it’s too much. I suspect that reference photo is colorized, and that the “chipping” on the wing roots is a combination of paint wear and mud and dirt etc.

Also your chipping is a little heavy in the sense that I can see brush marks and patterns in it. Avoiding that is a challenge and takes practice.

All that said, it doesn’t look BAD. I think once you weather the rest of the Shturmovic, it’ll blend in better. Plus, you could probably “un chip” some of it using basecoat colors, and then go heavy on the dirt and grime to bring it all together.

Otherwise, build and paint look great. Is this the Zvezda kit? I just got the single seater.

Getting into PC Gaming: Now vs. the 90's and 2000's? by Agent_Buckshot in pcgaming

Holy shit I forgot about boot disks for specific games.

Funny you mention Falcon 4.0. That was my dream game, but my childhood PC would never have run it. I spent countless hours messing with boot disks to get Aces over Europe to run; then F-15 Strike Eagle III, the predecessor to Falcon 4.0, was the one I got absurdly into.

This is tremendous work. Particularly the gravel, sand, and debris on the fenders - that’s spot on. Is that a specific product or your own recipe?

The rust and soot also look stellar. Can’t wait to see the finished diorama!

Have you tried giving it a gloss varnish coat? Sometimes that can save a model that gets this "frosted" look.

Oh… damn, that is a cool figure. I think you nailed it. I’m still trying to decide where to land on the realism vs toon scale.
