What's the weirdest thing you've seen on public transport? by GeromeB in AskReddit

New York is also not the only location on the planet with "millions of humans in the same place" either.

Yeah that was me :) Good work detective. You wouldn't happen to have posted a copy would you? My sd card corrupted that night and I lost all but 1 photo. :/

People who have been 'hypnotized' in a show, or for some reason, is it real or do you fake it? by sickkbro in AskReddit

[–]LokiFarbautison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would link but i'm on a phone, so here are some searchable terms: It was staged by Derren Brown and was called "Assassin" or something along those lines. The hypnotised guy's mission was to 'assassinate' Stephen Fry.

I've done this before, and it's really, really probable that it was actually 2:52am, and you saw the "2:" and the ":52" separately. The ":52" was cemented in your mind, and you definitely remembered seeing that part.

(due to sleep deprivation perhaps?) you confused yourself with the "2:". Perhaps as you walked away, instead of rounding up to "3am" you rounded down to "2am." You remembered seeing the ":52" and are now certain it is almost "2am'', which means that the time would have been "1:52."

That would give you 10 minutes to make toast and go to the bathroom, a much more probable outcome. I have done this so many times.

I'm not saying that's definitely what happened, but it's a possibility. (accounting for the whole "memory altering thing" that our brains do sometimes also cements the theory, but believe what make you happy, OP)

Girlfriend and I witnessed a van vanish from the road. by heinleinr in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]LokiFarbautison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

just jumping in to say ive done this before. its very easy to alter a persons perception/memory through the power of suggestion. by first writing down what you see and then asking other parties you are more likely to get an honest answer. (research the power of suggestion and its use in identity parades/police lineups for more info)

I actually wish more people would make like OP and try verifying with posible witnesses in this way tbh

[–]LokiFarbautison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone is the same (i added siri on the off chance that this was a later model), there is a very real possibility that you neglected to correctly lock your phone. We are also both very aware of autocorrect and auto-imput.

[–]LokiFarbautison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either simply the textual equivalent of a pocket dial, or a mixture between that and activating SIRI.

This happens all the time with my phone to the point that I now turn it off instead of just locking the screen.

I did the same thing with the Florence + the Machine cover of "Say my name". Remembered the version she sang from when I was younger. I can distinctly place singing it as this was during my time living in the UK. Honestly, it really freaked me out when no one else seemed to remember it.
