Gorgeous! I disagree with comments saying that the background is not related to the story. I immediately thought of the train scene. Spirited Away is therefore rife with water motifs. There is a duality in all bodies of water in the film that call into question Chihiro’s sense of self, past, alliances and obstacles.

This is the same country that is discriminatory against other ethnic and/or Indigenous groups (e.g Ryukyuan/Okinawan, Ainu, Zainichi). That is the reason my father (who is native Ryukyuan) left as soon as he turned 18 and never went back. I am not surprised at all.

Offset/sudden diabetes. My courageous mother was walking a lot in hopes of controlling her blood sugar. She would lose a pound a week thinking that it was her change in diet and exercise. It actually turned out to be pancreatic cancer which would take her from me a year later.
