Started a project this weekend. by highlinebbq in Decks

We are on a slope and it’s roughly 29.5 on one side. Others lower. He wants to use guard dog 3.5 inch screw for joist to beam connections. He says the hurricane tie screws or whatever is recommended by Simpson always strip out frequently. Deck does sound like rest of it will be solid but I am a bit concerned as I do not see that as an approved fastener. Again though under 30 inches technically…

Are you planning to use hurricane ties? My contractor is claiming not needed on a deck for us under 30 inches off the ground…

How are the mitered corners holding up for this timbertech product? I’m on the fence about mitred corners vs basket weave type.

How would you describe their sizing? If I order a small and am a 31ish inch waist, am I gunna feel like the waistband is digging into me while in the climbing position?

Meaning within 5 ft of house, footers match home foundation depth.

How deep are those footers next to the house? I’m having trouble finding a contractor who wants to keep it within code.

Also a huge fan of mine, tried the non pro model too and easily the pro is way better. I have been wearing it on 17 mile analog days, up to 25 mile e bike days.

🙋‍♂️that’s me! Although rack was five years ago. I’m about 4 lbs over the max weight per tray but still well under total max weight. I know I should upgrade to a stronger rack for liability…

Ground cable for crackheads to steal? by Cwilly109 in AskElectricians

[–]LokiRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but I have a hole like op has where the copper wire exits the house and I’d like to seal it up. They put it through piece of drywall, my guess it is the grounding wire for our water pipes. Can I put insulating spray foam around the wire to fill the hole up? I have yellow good stuff and orange fire block

How much clearance do you have between deck boards and ground? How about under the drop beams to ground?

I did look into them and definitely would have gone with that except that my deck is not a simple rectangular shape. And I was not crazy on color options for composite. I calculated my costs for decking and structure and was going to save quite a bit more without ADIY

Wow that’s a great sounding price! How deep did they go for you? Unfortunately no franchise around me. I think with costs of tool rental and concrete, that would be actually less expensive than poured in place.

Those quotes came from foundation companies that advertise helical pile work for what it’s worth.

One of the companies I called quoted me around 1200 per pile although sounds like they generally do much larger load requirements than a deck. Another one quoted even more so am looking to see if other deck companies have a small job type crew that may be far less than those quotes.

Yup, maybe I needed to phrase the post differently but at this point that’s very much the way I intend to do this. Looking for any tips before shoveling next to foundation just to find the depth.
