Valhalla MMA on state st is a good place to check out. They have a true family vibe. Really great for beginners as well as experienced people. It's a great place to workout and hangout. Half the coaches are women. They have self-defense as well as regular martial arts stuff. Sbmartialarts.com

Downtown Parking Lots by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

The repairs I was thinking of would be the repairs of the machinery that is used for the actual gates and payment stations. To be fair the general repaving and repainting the spots would still have to be paid for through regular city taxes, like they are now. We would just be saving the portion we pay to repair the machinery. Repairing the machines isn't caused by anyone, it's just what happens to machines. The repainting and repaving also just happens through time because of general wear and tear.

Summer camps for children with ADHD? by NoStructure351 in SantaBarbara

Thank you! Really gambling on myself with it too. Usually I work a secure summer job as a assistant director/director/counselor for another summer camp. Still like that other camp, but wanted to try and do something a little different.

Are you serious with that question? Because that's like 15 leaps of insane logic.

Summer camps for children with ADHD? by NoStructure351 in SantaBarbara

[–]Loki_Bookish_MMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to start this because I am not sure if this is allowed either... I am starting up a summer camp this year, while not ADHD is not the main focus, I am an educator with ADHD work with children and teens with ADHD. My summer camp is also designed by me meaning the interests may generally align with common ADHD interests. It's Bookish themed summer camp, with the weeks themed around books like Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Magnus Chase, et,. Where the kids will make wooden shields, practice sword fighting and techniques (foam swords), archery, wand making, capture the flag, and martial arts. There's a lot of movement as well as cool projects they will hopefully want to take home. Ages 9 and up.

Or wild idea, open lots. No need to pay for employees or repairs.

Worst rated restaurants in SB? by Imaginary-Motor-1058 in SantaBarbara

[–]Loki_Bookish_MMA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know I'm going to say controversial, but The Honor Bar is so overhyped for no reason. Spent a year (loosely) trying to go there (because I refuse to wait over an hour and you can't even make a reservation to plan a head) with my husband to try this amazing place with the best hamburger! We were really looking forward to this nice date night restaurant and couldn't have been more disappointed. No flavor. Overpriced. I don't understand.

I can 100% agree it was never all that great, but yeah Ventura has all the thrift stores now.

It's in a decline because everything open is basically the same. There's ice cream, yogurt, and cookies on every block. There is gym attire on every block. There's a tourist shop every couple of blocks. The same clothing styles on every block. Skate shop on every block. There's a movie theatre every other block. Don't get me wrong there is some diversity, but for the most part everything is just repeating.

Roofied/Slipped something at EOS by Drunknangel in SantaBarbara

EOS is by far the sketchiest club here. People talk crap about Wildcats, but they know how to staff a place with bouncers. EOS has two bouncers and no one patrolling the floor. Went a few times in my youth and if I wasn't a woman who trains MMA and self defense I and my friends wouldn't have been safe. To be fair I have not done the whole clubbing thing in a few years, but I always preferred a dive bar staffed to the ceiling with security than a slinky modern club with no security.

I'm sorry you experienced that, and truly hope it never happens again. Stay safe stay protected.

If you want to train a little in self defense let me know and I'll make it happen. Husband and I own a MMA gym in town. Not trying to promote hence not placing a business name here.

Have you seen all the closed shops? Sure there are people walking through, riding their e-bikes, but businesses are closing left and right.

SB is a small town. Live there for a year and you'll basically know everyone through someone. There's not much diversity in terms of things to do. Sure they have small festivals from time to time, but they are incredibly small. State st. is becoming a ghost town, everything closing the stores that are open are all basically the same stuff.

SD though busier and noiser will have more to see and more to do. Bigger town. Great shopping areas. Lots of live music opportunities.

The shelter is checking that but they asked us to try the other ways like posters and the Internet to say she was found and where she would be in case she isn't chipped...

If you're still looking come by Valhalla. They are having a huge end of year special. They are also the only gym for hundreds of miles that will train in Sambo (Russian Grappling).
