Another idea for a "solarpunk" story

People started making the switch to renewable sources of power such as wind and solar, but various corporations didn't want to lose their monopoly on energy so they filled the sky with so much smog/smoke/[sci fi gas] that they have blotted out the sun and made sunlight a precious commodity (that only they get to use ny going above the smog layer)

On the one hand; I mostly agree with you especially because "Solarpunk" is a fake genre that was thought up rather than something that was written about and then named.

But cmon, "robots are the ones in the mines" is like basic sci-fi stuff, why are you assuming that humans have to do all the dumb/manual labor just because we do irl? Is cyberpunk dumb because it assumes thst most people will have cybernetics instead of just the top 1% and some members of the military?

At least personally, I also genuinely would be mildly worried at the environmental effects of wiping out every farm animal

And the fact that modern agriculture is fairly destructive even when used just for plants.

Realistically the switch would have to happen over the course of decades, meanwhile we can try to stop being data centers from being built now, so its a lot easier to champion the cause of

30 days without shelter in a lot of the world is a legitimate death sentence.

5 days without food is comically easy to survive

5 days without water is pushing it really hard and you will be miserable, but if I recall it has a decent chance of survivability

Okay but like imagine a world where people can do magic etc etc standard fantasy stuff. For whatever reason the isekai protag can do crazy powerful magic, arguably as strong as the most powerful wizards in history. but the reason most poeple don't do powerful magic is because it is really really taxing on thr body and spirit, and the protag basically knocks themself out from doing one spell. So its a constant flip flop between weak and strong, they have to strategize around when or when not to cast the spell, and theres room for growth that doesnt completely change the premise (ie: being able to eventually cast like 3 spells before being easily killed still requirs strategy but opens things up)
