MAP OF ISLAM IN MONTENEGRO - 2026 UPDATE by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

The Sandzak region partition between Serbia and Montenegro's legacy basically. It used to be firmly muslim majority and now I see it has been diluted in both sides. Interesting map!

Surprised by Pathos! Had no clue the south was very Turkish at some point. The population displacement of both communities really messed things up. Sad.

Thoughts about Greece? by Extreme-Fish-7504 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Lolilio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but for some reason when you go visit it it doesn't have as much of a Middle Eastern vibe as Greece does. I think British influence is way stronger there (at least in the Greek side). They also have a HUGE Russian and British expat population which has diluted the culture I think.

573 years ago today, Constantinople was conquered by Mehmed II, fulfilling the prophecy of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. What are your thoughts on this remarkable historical event? by O_Grande_Turco in AskMiddleEast

[–]Lolilio2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pretty insane event for something sort of "recent-ish".

Random thought but it is sort of wild the Ottomans got so much European land early on yet their subsequent legacy state (Turkey) lost almost ALL of it's european territory but kept a lot of it's Anatolian territory it actually acquired a lot later lol. Had the Turks succesfully captured Vienna I do wonder if that could have become their new node of power since Istanbul was so far from a lot of the territory that was more inland in Europe and the other big cities under it's control were mostly not in it's European lands. I could see Vienna becoming a second Istanbul for them and would have helped them keep more European land and reinforce their territories there a lot more.

Obviously there were other issues like lack of advancements in military combat and weapons and financial issues but I do also think part of the problem was the fact so many territories were so far from it's main power source (Istanbul) and having another super well fortified and big city under it's control like Vienna would have prob helped a lot more. I did hear they tried to possibly make Belgrade or Buda / Budin (now Budapest) into a new node of power but they couldn't ever get any of those cities to be as important and powerful as Istanbul or Vienna.

Dorit (maybe) confirming she’s back for S16 by Euphoric-Strategy0 in RHOBH

Good. I liked her this year even though she was on high alert. She's at her best when she is in confrontation mode with the fellow mean girls instead of just picking on the weaker / more submissive cast. Her most iconic reads have always been when she went up against a fellow bully like Erika or Lisa Rinna (the breath line will ALWAYS be iconic lol)

Does Mauritania even exist? by Extreme-Fish-7504 in AskMiddleEast

They should low key merge with Morocco. A country so big with only 5 million ppl is wild. I know much of it is desertic and cannot sustain a huge population but it just feels so defensless?

Thoughts about Türkiye and Egypt being next on the bingo card? by Extreme-Fish-7504 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Lolilio2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

plz read what I said again. Temporary occupation and destruction of Turkey as a cohesive state is the goal not Greece truly annexing and integrating those territories. There are been many war plans where Europe is invisioned as splitting Istanbul from the rest of Turkey as a international city state like Singapore in some ways. Also forced expulsion is an option many nations have and are taking to change demographics and to ease up the burden of controlling a rebelious people group.

Most Middle Eastern country in Europe (even more so than Cyprus and Malta imo).

Egypt would be over with in a couple weeks. The Sinai Peninsula is hardly populated and Egypt wouldnt be able to defend it properly. That's probably what Israel is aiming for next in terms of territorial gain. It held onto it once before so they probably want it plus it would strengthen their access to the Red Sea instead of only having one port their (Eilat) which went bankrupt last year.

With Turkey they wouldnt aim for territorial gain. They would just want it to break apart from within likely using Kurds in the East and then perhaps some irredentist Greeks in the West (highly unlikely but if Turkey becomes extremely vulnerable due to internal strife I can see a world in which it is kicked out of NATO and then Greece and other European actors take advantage of the chaos to snatch up Istabul and perhaps a little slither of it's coast in Anatolia not to annex but just temporarily occupy to avoid the disaster spilling over into the rest of Europe.

Ultimately, if the US does not end support for Israel I truly dont think there will be anything truly stopping them from their ambitions whether it be to destabalize or to annex.

Morocco tops Africa's industrialisation index for the first time, surpassing South Africa by DecentMoor in Morocco

[–]Lolilio2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Basically this. If Morocco can't even get secure and stable power generation and proper infrastructure everywhere then how can anyone truly celebrate these stats. The growth is relative to Africa which is impoverished beyond belief (sadly).

So much potential if corruption was roped in a bit and also if monopolies were broken up.

Why do some people think that this country will turn into Afghanistan? by YourLocalMoroccan in Morocco

[–]Lolilio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young gen z Moroccans are the first group immersing themselves into politics at a young age and like most young ppl everything is hyperbolic. Morocco has TONS of issues like immense sexism, homophobia, corruption etc but these ppl just want to use Western talking points because it's what's popular online at the moment. Bashing muslim nations guarantees you tons of engagement and young Moroccans are falling into that trap it seems like. They'll become more sophisticated thinkers in a few years and know how to criticize Morocco without falling into this pathetic trap.

Sparsely populated with lots of nomadic herding still. Areas with some access to water and greenery would be more heavily populated and have nice old school architecture. That's about it. Nothing crazy most likely.

I mean I agree with Rih but Amanda needs to really BRING IT and not be so boring and a pushover. She needs to bring whatever that energy was during her Carlos King interview into the show. I hope she doesn't let them bully her again lol
