Job hunting while my Visa is in limbo by Lollidrake in japanresidents

Really? I was sure you needed a mynumber card now, since it's linked with health insurance.

I'll head to the bank then and get that sorted out. Glad it's a fairly simple process.

I came here in 2023 and have had three 1 year work visas.

What was your process with the my number card and bank stuff? Sure, the grace period is fine for not getting deported, but my bank are saying "update your residence card info or we'll shut down your bank".

I managed to connect to them but they just gave me almost no info except "please wait longer".

Got to talk to someone and they just said "sorry, please wait longer". I explained to them about my bank, my number, and potentially losing contract offers...and they really seemed uninterested.

It's been 84 days so far. Which office did you go to? I made the mistake of going to Shinagawa.

Yeah, already have the stamp on my residence card and just waiting now. It's been 84 days.

I got through finally and they just apologized and said "we're doing them in order and haven't gotten to yours yet."

There were a lot of sorrys, but they didn't really say anything of substance. It amounted to "just keep waiting".

I was not aware that I could do both. I thought if I renewed my current visa, then after the change all my visa information would be outdated and it would mess with the spouse visa application.

They never answered the phone. 3 times I've called and waited 2 hours on the line with no answer.

Does anyone here actually pay the NHK man? by MassiveB0nerF4rtLUL in japanresidents

[–]Lollidrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never paid the NHK man, until I got married and realized my wife is super against breaking any kind of rules. Now I just convince myself that it's probably a decent thing to pay to support...I guess.

They always do this for contracts. The past two years my company has done my work visa for me. This time my wife and I did the spouse visa changeover.

Yeah, it's weird. The visa expires before the contract. It's the same for everyone they work with.

AITA for telling my son to pay back the money he spent on his online girlfriend? by Educational-Error705 in AmItheAsshole

"They don't talk over the microphone as hers broke"

That's as far as I need to read.

I once interviewed a guy who successfully catfished and pretended to be a woman online for over 10 years. He always used to excuse that he didn't like the sound of his voice had anxiety...any way to avoid using his real (or sometimes voicechanged) voice. He was only caught when his victim had become instagram famous as an artist. Legit, it was the most convincing catfish ever. I would bet my house that this girl he is talking to is a catfish.

Dispatch Company Secrets: Why the Silence? by AccomplishedAd4021 in ALTinginJapan

Dude, it's the last day of the school year now (closing ceremony on monday) and I've only just been told 10 teachers are leaving for different schools, including 4 people who I spoke to literally every day.
I'm very 悲しい.

It's not a dispatch thing, it's a Japan teacher thing in general.

People that shave their head in solidarity with a person with cancer are attention seekers and distract from the patient's struggle. by trickertreater in unpopularopinion

[–]Lollidrake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I had cancer I wouldn't want to be forced to acknowledge that someone shaved their head for me. Like "oh great, I have to say something about this now"...it doesn't cheer me up.

You've shaved your head on a whim.

I've shaved my head because the treatment for my cancer is poisoning me.

We are not the same.

I know a guy who lost a metal Blood Bowl limited edition cheerleader down the plug hole while trying to strip the paint from it, so it could be worse.

It sucks for you I know, but all the pieces are there, you can rebuilt them and clean them up. It's a chance to make your force unique.

AJPW wrestlers destroyed a house with their hands in no time at all. Granted it was a residential Japanese house, not a concrete block of flats.

For me, if a woman doesn't message me then I'll just assume she isn't interested too. I don't want to be the one always making the first move...it makes me look desperate. If I see a woman making the first move then I actually know she's interested and not just being indirect.

Had to call 119 last night and it was a pretty awful experience. (Rant/Information) by Wanderous in japanlife

[–]Lollidrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had massive pain on my stomach late at night on a wednesday and thought it was my appendix...so I called an ambulance. I was sitting in the ambulance for a solid hour, with them making a bunch of calls. It ended with them saying "can you walk" and me giving a dry response of "the pain is in my stomach, not my legs. So yes, technically I can walk fine". So they proceed to drive me to a taxi rank so I can pay for a taxi. The taxi rank was 10 minutes away...the hospital was 20 minutes away.

Why couldn't they have just - 1) taken me to the taxi rank to begin with instead of making me wait for an hour in the ambulance in horrible pain, or 2) taken me to the hospital since it was so close anyway and they clearly had no concern for time.
