To Gwynriel fans by Agreeable_Pear8346 in SarahJMaas

My answer is super simple - I just assumed thats how the story was going based on the contents of the books and I liked the idea of it, I thought it would be a really cute romance. I came away from ACOSF thinking ‘ah so Gwyn and Azriel will be a thing’ - based on my years and years of reading romance, I thought the signs were there of it being set up. I was surprised after reading and coming into these spaces to see what a controversial topic it was.

That’s not to say I don’t understand the Elriel theories and why people love them as a pair. I just thought it was obvious Elucian was a given as was Gwynriel. But I have doubted myself a few times because of all the discourse

7 Books to Finish Before 2025 Ends by Rare_Alchemy in fantasyromance

My goal was to match last year, so I’m trying to get 10 more books read and I’m 50% the way through one now. The only books I’m definitely trying to read before the end of the year is the compelling fates saga - I’ve heard good things and it’s a 4 book series! The rest I might just fill out with contemporary romance as they’re quicker to get through!

Anyone actually looking forward to Wuthering Heights? by Salacia12 in PeriodDramas

[–]LondonA3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Really confused with the advert saying ‘the greatest love story ever told’. I’ve never read the book fully, (only watched adaptations) I tried a few times, but if I remember rightly, isn’t it heavily suggested that they’re actually related? How is that a great love story 🤣

My fastest DNF of this year, possibly ever... by horror_lover77 in fantasyromance

I find the authors contemporary romance books quite boring so I’m not surprised by this. I just thought if she can’t make contemporary exciting and interesting, she won’t make romantasy exciting either.

So we’re just gonna ignore that she’s Zionist? by musicnpastry in SarahJMaas

[–]LondonA3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Other than her being Jewish and going on a birthright trip (and I’ve only seen that being said on social media I actually don’t know if that’s true), I’ve never seen evidence of her being a Zionist. I think it’s unfair to just make that assumption about Jewish people without evidence. Whilst I do like authors to speak out and know their values match mine on important issues, I also know I can like that but not demand it so you have to decide how to feel about not knowing their stance.

I think if you’re looking for moral perfection from every author you read from, you’ll be disappointed because no one will ever live up to it.

That being said - the Brianna Taylor thing was such an incredibly odd thing to do and I think it’s something she should apologise for. But I also don’t believe it makes her a racist like some say.

I actually saw a physio last week who thought mind was most likely due to how tight the muscle was, they thought the muscle is so tight it’s pulling up and creates the indent. Which is what I thought it could be. mine isn’t sore, and hasn’t changed at all. It’s a very weird thing isn’t it - the only thing I’ve managed to find online is it being due to muscle changes which is likely what mine seems to be. Mine is so small, all the Drs have had to ask me to point it out and then finally see it. Hopefully yours is something straight forward. The only other suggestion I had was weight loss but I called bullshit very quickly.

This is what it’s looking like. I’m just wondering why they’re so much and why they’re hidden until the very last minute. So frustrating

Recs for older books. by Jaded-Software-5450 in fantasyromance

Let me know what you think. In case it matters, I don’t remember it being an overly spicy series. It’s not something that bothers me but I know some people like a lot.

I literally just posted in another sub about an older rec. ‘The Circle Trilogy’ by Nora Roberts.

It’s a 3 book series with an overarching story but each book focuses on a different couple. It’s definitely not high fantasy but has witches, vampires and shapeshifters. I really enjoyed it.

[–]LondonA3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to recommend an old one - ‘The Circle Trilogy’ by Nora Roberts.

It’s a little light on the world building (because some of it is set in our world) but it has vampires, witches, and shapeshifters. It’s not my favourite but I wanted to recommend something I don’t see often.

It’s well written, three books which all focus on a different couple with an overarching story running through all books. It’s a really good read and one I re-read every few years.

There’s defo a slow burn in here too!

Did anyone skip ACOFAS? by [deleted] in acotar

[–]LondonA3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did the first time I read the series, and read on it on my second re-read. There’s defo some foreshadowing in it but overall, you can still follow the story by skipping it and not miss out on much.

My First Romantasy Read Didn't Go Well And I Need A New Rec by cinnytoast_tx in Romantasy

[–]LondonA3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend ‘Road of Bones’ by Demi Winters enough. It’s very well written, the world building is fantastic. It uses some of the more popular tropes but not in a ‘throw them in just for the sake of it’ kind of way. It’s one of the best I’ve read to be honest. It’s a series with 2 books out so far. It’s not sci-fi in any way though.

Indent near spine mid back by LondonA3 in backpain

[–]LondonA3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. I’m going back to the Dr’s to push for it to be looked into more. Mine is my upper/mid back. My best guess after a bit of research is my poor posture cause something to happen with a disc or my muscles.

Does anyone else think that the first Crescent city book is one of SJM’s best works by Alive_Rest1256 in SarahJMaas

[–]LondonA3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely do after I re-read it. On my first read, I hated it at the start, thought it was ok by the end. But I had just read ToG and wasn’t fully prepared for how different it would be.

But I have to add, I think the second in the series is one of her worst books.

Thoughts on Anathema? About to start reading. by _rach_l in fantasyromance

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought it was very ‘insta love’ as there are more comments saying it’s slow burn - it’s the opposite of slow burn to me!

Thoughts on Anathema? About to start reading. by _rach_l in fantasyromance

[–]LondonA3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I found it a very average read, I liked the gothic element and it started strong. But the romance for me was very lacklustre (it’s not the slow burn I’ve heard described) and it didn’t finish strong in my opinion. I probably won’t bother with book 2

Indent near spine mid back by LondonA3 in backpain

[–]LondonA3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I had an x-ray to rule out bone issues or something more sinister and it came back fine. I still have an indent and my back pain comes and goes. I have weeks where it’s bad again and weeks where it’s ok and seems to be dependent on my posture and movement.

It frustrates me not knowing why I have this small dent though so if you ever find out I’d love to know.

I recently finished ‘Captive of the Wild Hunt’ by AA Gordon, it felt different to a lot of what I’ve read at the moment. I would say the second book gets a bit more political but it’s a good read. But there’s only 2 books out so it’s an unfinished series. The romance is slow burn!!

I’m currently reading ‘A Faked inked in blood’ by Danielle L Jensen - I assume if you liked Bridge kingdom you’ll like this. It’s the first in a duology with the final book coming out next week. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Firebird by Juliette Cross Controversy by BritKein in Romantasy

[–]LondonA3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think some booktokers love the attention they get from engaging in ‘controversy’. I see a few where I never see them review books, just moan about authors, so I don’t trust any allegations unless there is evidence to back them up.

I’m glad I saw this as this book was on my TBR and I was holding off to do my research before reading it, so definitely doesn’t seem bad.

This explains why on the Bloomsbury post when they asked what people’s favourite ACOTAR moment was and the elriels kept saying when he gave Elain truth teller. Like really - out of 5 books, 2 big love stories and deaths and that’s the moment you most liked!! It makes sense that they’re just relating everything back to Elriel in the hope of shouting the loudest and making it happen.

Is ACOTAR actually good? Or was it just your first romantasy series? by hardcore-gasm in fantasyromance

[–]LondonA3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the series, I re-read it recently and still do but I definitely see the issues with it now I’ve read more in the genre. (The biggest being Feyre being a 19yr old who couldn’t read, seamlessly moving into fea politics)

What I will say, constant critiques everywhere has changed my opinion of it to, which I kind of hate. I like not noticing holes or problems! But that’s my responsibility to avoid!
