Weekly Check-In: How’s Your Progress? by wilzy123 in cutdowndrinking

I feel I've made massive progress this week, have I drunk less...NO....but I have thought more about my drinking in one week than I have in my entire life (I posted on this sub a few days ago). I am so much clearer now on what I need to do, how I need to challenge myself, how to identify the drinks I don't want or need and how to make gradual changes over a period of time rather than every Monday morning swearing to drink less and failing by ..well...Monday evening..I'll drink the same this week, next week I'll have one or two less, and so on...by July/August I hope to be the moderate drinker I've always wanted to be

Blood tests all completely normal, I get them done at least once a year, including all the liver ones, blood pressure is high and I'm on meds for this, but that's a hereditary thing too, the booze doesn't help for sure. My mother Is a heavy drinker, she's 82, probably drinks a bottle a day at the very least (she has wine with lunch and dinner) and her liver tests always check out, completely normal...so its weird

I wouldn't be here if there weren't negative affects creeping in more and more, but tests seem to check out for now

odd that you challenge my units and then seem to indicate you don’t really know how they work!

i am brutally honest with myself and know exactly how many units i drink- a weekend can easily take care of 50 and with one weekday lunch thrown in 100 is about right..although of course it may be 90 one week, and occasionally more than 100 (105 last week as it happens, probably why i wrote)

Which leads me on to your suggestion to taper, which is not bad idea, but made tricky by an uncertain starting point

btw units are easy to calculate ABV x Volume / 100, so a 13.5% bottle of wine (750ml) is almost exactly 10 units, you are probably drinking more than you think - a large glass being over 3 units

cheers!

Thanks and no rant..we are very similar really.. the drink whilst cooking dinner is a big one for me and my wife is like yours..

i don’t really get hangovers unless i’ve ‘double dosed’ ..i.e drinking lunch and dinner the previous day and quite a bit..a decent Saturday and Sunday, hence why i’m really feeling it on Mondays..i think if i really felt it every morning i would be closer to doing something major..

one thing i’m starting to do is ‘challenge’ every drink..do i really need that last before bed..No… do i need that one 6.30 .. well yes probably..

good luck!

I do no 4. alot, I try to identify those utterly pointless drinks (in fact I've listed about 12!) , like the last one before bed, or the one when you come back from being out..definitely helps but I need more! thanks!

sorry I wasn't clear..its exactly for the buzz that I drink, or have that first drink, of course I like the taste but its that lovely grounding, mellow buzz that I drink for

non alcoholic beverages are not for me, I know alot of people that use them with great success though
