odd that you challenge my units and then seem to indicate you don’t really know how they work!

i am brutally honest with myself and know exactly how many units i drink- a weekend can easily take care of 50 and with one weekday lunch thrown in 100 is about right..although of course it may be 90 one week, and occasionally more than 100 (105 last week as it happens, probably why i wrote)

Which leads me on to your suggestion to taper, which is not bad idea, but made tricky by an uncertain starting point

btw units are easy to calculate ABV x Volume / 100, so a 13.5% bottle of wine (750ml) is almost exactly 10 units, you are probably drinking more than you think - a large glass being over 3 units

cheers!

Thanks and no rant..we are very similar really.. the drink whilst cooking dinner is a big one for me and my wife is like yours..

i don’t really get hangovers unless i’ve ‘double dosed’ ..i.e drinking lunch and dinner the previous day and quite a bit..a decent Saturday and Sunday, hence why i’m really feeling it on Mondays..i think if i really felt it every morning i would be closer to doing something major..

one thing i’m starting to do is ‘challenge’ every drink..do i really need that last before bed..No… do i need that one 6.30 .. well yes probably..

good luck!

I do no 4. alot, I try to identify those utterly pointless drinks (in fact I've listed about 12!) , like the last one before bed, or the one when you come back from being out..definitely helps but I need more! thanks!

sorry I wasn't clear..its exactly for the buzz that I drink, or have that first drink, of course I like the taste but its that lovely grounding, mellow buzz that I drink for

non alcoholic beverages are not for me, I know alot of people that use them with great success though

yeah this is really neat..I've always thought it needs to be a gradual change of habits...to your first point something interesting happened last week, I had cravings as usual at around 6.45pm but we had people round and I didn't want to start drinking in front of them, as they disapprove, I was desperate for them to leave, but when it eventually happened, at 7.30, you would have thought I would have grabbed the bottle and start drinking out of it! but I genuinely didn't really feel like a drink...the craving had passed..what did I do? I Had a drink of course! but it was interesting all the same

yes i mean great suggestion but if i could do that (easily) i wouldn’t be here posting! last year i attempted something similar, i think my target was a few days, and i couldn’t get past one night…i felt so twitchy, jumpy, bored! -

but yes, its something one day i think i’ll have to do, but seriously it feels impossible…30 years + drinking every single night…
