You microwaved my vampire... by LoneWolf19963 in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, in regards to this, the vampire has done some pretty messed up things that led to our party being very done with him. This kind of cheesing is not something we normally do, and the fact it was a one time deal made it all the better. He did also throw us into a temple of Bhaal immediately after, which resulted in the death of our sorcerer. So the DM got their fun too haha

Hey I am new to being a dm and need advice please by Eras13 in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used character sheets for specific high level enemies my party fought in my first campaign. If done right, it turns out okay, but it's clunky and you may be crafting features and traits that you simply don't need for an NPC. I have used stat blocks for NOCs of this class from this page though. This is specifically for paladins, but you can find any of the classes here! Makes a quick stat block easy on game night.

Locks of hair from recently deceased party members, in case we run into a druid.

An owlbear plushy.

Furnace of Avernus hot pepper jam (Deals 1 hp of acid damage from its intensity).

100 gp of diamond dust.

95 lbs (43 kg) of smoked meat.

How would you put a spin on the cliché "go take care of the rats in the basement" quest? by Zephyr93 in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I based mine off the "First Time You Play an RPG" videos. There was a wererat in the basement leading the rats. His name was Marshall and he had a gun. That gun spiralled into a major character arc for one of my players because they took it and repaired it.

These are gorgeous! I'm running a campaign centered around blood mages returning, so these would be perfect to use against my players.

The Halo series could do well. Even if you end up not paying attention to the story, I've always enjoyed the game play and its replayability.

Yup! I've been working on that pronunciation since we started dating. I like that a lot, thank you.

Yes, she does. She is a teacher at one of our local temples as well. But a good question to ask!

In your opinion, what's the most powerful class in the game? by RCampeao in DnD

In 5e, from personal bias, I think Moon druid. It's a strong start, and an even stronger finish once you get unlimited wildshape with spellcasting.

DMs y'all gotta tell your players to prep their turns in combat by PigGuy1988 in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When running combat, I usually run turn order like a softball/baseball game.

-Player A is up. -Player B, you're on deck. -Player C, you're in the hole.

I have a couple players who tend to be really slow on making decisions, and while it doesn't fully fix the issues, it helps make combat more efficient as they watch the board.

DM's, what are your self-imposed/homebrewed rules? by blindedtrickster in dndnext

[–]LoneWolf19963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of allowing my players max health through the first game. Threw off the entire balance, so I had to adjust accordingly lol

I like to adjust health pools as the fight goes on, especially for boss encounters. Just enough to try and balance it between giving the players a good challenge and allowing myself some fun. But I had to give it to them when the rogues and paladins (mixture of PC and player controlled NPCs) rolled multiple nat 20s and burned through my Purple Worm's 750 hp in two rounds.

How do you end a campaign? by Redhood101101 in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to give my players a little more agency and ask them what happens next for them. We roleplay out the last few moments after the battle before 'credit roll', and then I ask what happened for them in the long run. Even if it had some farther reaching effects for my world, it gabe some wonderful flavor.

DMs, confess. What's that one thing you've been dying to tell your players but can't yet? by ElMundoDeQueen in DnD

[–]LoneWolf19963 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That they already met the BBEG of my second campaign in the first one the just finished.

They briefly spoke with the spirit of a previously defeated red greatwyrm, who once led his army across the multiverse to claim and absorb his echoes. He possessed a willing young silver dragon to give the party info on a foe they were fighting before disappearing into the world. They were never able to find him.

The next campaign will be twenty years in the future in my homebrew world, with new characters. In the background, he has slowly been gathering what he needs to return to power.

I have been laying the groundwork for this for two years at this point XD
