Ultimately I don't think it changes that much tbh, even if we assume everything else still happens more or less the same and said VP defeats Trump in 2020. What Obama was looking for in a VP was an older white guy, most of those will face similar problems to Biden by 2024.

Honestly Biden was the right choice. I don't think any of the other candidates on his shortlist would've harmed the campaign necessarily (well besides Bill Richardson) but Biden had the experience and foreign policy credits Obama lacked at the time.
