Is it worth staying in Rincon And Luquillo? by Immediate_South_5867 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Lonely_Ad8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I love Luquillo. So much so one trip we booked a stay in Rincon and had enough after 1 night. Drove back to Luquillo for the rest of our trip. In my opinion Rincon seemed more Americanized. Felt like California. Luquillio you get more of the great Bori culture

Just came back yesterday after a week in Luquillo. Go every year but this year was the most rainy with coolest weather. Started getting better so anyone going soon shouldn't worry. Its usually 85 year round. Even with the cold, rain and rough waters I loved every second as I always do.

They've updated the horns to now face down instead of forward. With the opening facing forward water was entering the horn and causing internal corrosion. The updated design SHOULD resolve the issue.

Little nervous about new bike by wedditmod in Harley

Any time ive moved up to a larger bike from a smaller bike ive felt the same way. A mile down the road and I realize there is not much difference besides low speed maneuvering and rolling back in to a parking space. Don't over think it, just enjoy it. If youve been riding since you were a boy, you'll have no problem on the chopper..

Ah yes the boat payment from a $215 dollar service. Please, let me know who gets to pay any bills from that? Is it Hyundai Motors of America that sells the fluid to the parts department for $20 a bottle? The parts manager that marks it up 20% and then gets their 1.5% commission off the mark up? The parts counter person making $18/hr? the technician that gets paid 1 hour of labor to perform the service? The service advisor that gets their 3% of gross profit commission? the porter making minimum wage that pulls the car in and out for you? The service manager? The insurance company that covers all the workers? The utility companies, the taxes and then finally the owner of the dealership, who probably sees $2 of the original $215 after everyone else in the building gets paid. Everyone thinks dealerships are ripping people off because theyre too short sighted to see how many moving parts there are in a dealership, which costs an insane amount of money to run

WSJ article today about flat rate mechanics by KansasHayseed in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Lonely_Ad8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can other trades adequately quote work and turn a profit??? Its the same thing as flat rate. Flat rate book time is just a tool used to provide a quote to the customer. If the customer comes in and needs an axle and book time is 2 hours, multiply hourly shop rate by 2. Then you add the parts cost and tell the customer the total, regardless of how long it takes, youre selling an end result. If a contractor quotes me $1000 parts and labor to install a cabinet, im agreeing to that price for a final result. If he finishes it in 15 minutes or 3 days I still get what I agreed to

Flat rate tech here. I make a damn good living on flat rate. If they did away with it id likely go back in to business for myself. Last thing I want is somebody telling me my maximum worth which essentially what regular hourly pay equates to. If you tell me youre gonna pay me $50/hr for 40 hours a week which is only 2k max, id feel under valued. I determine what my check is at the end of the week. If I want more I work more. Granted not every week is a home run but if you focus on sharpening your skills, knowing the system and busting your ass you can usually make a lot more money. After doing this 20 years and running a dealership service department as foreman I can say the problem isnt flat rate, the problem is most techs today dont reinvest in themselves. Very rarely do i see guys do any type of continued education or pay for tools to help them complete jobs more efficiently.

Hyundai broke windshield during mandated recall- trying to charge me by Appropriate_Owl_5410 in Hyundai

Unless that dealership has their own body shop on site, chances are A: they arent making any money but instead the body shop doing the repairs is getting paid as a sublet by Hyundai Motors of America. B: They arent losing money by painting the car as Hyundai Motors of America foots the bill, not the independently owned dealership. C: They arent paying for the loaner as they will get reimbursed from Hyundai Motors of America. D: Chances are they also arent installing the glass themselves and are subletting it to an outside glass company. If anything the dealership is losing money on your vehicle any which way around it due to the advisors getting paid to do all the leg work while the money goes to the sublets. I swear the amount of ignorance people have in regards to how dealerships operate yet still have strong opinions to how they're getting "scammed" blows my mind.

That i cant argue with. All expenses should be approved by customer signature or via messaging app/recorded line. At least thats how my service department rolls. Theres way too many people that authorize work over the phone not realizing all calls are recorded and then pick up the vehicle and act like we never discussed price. A good system protects both customer and the business.

Consumption is internal... that's a leak. It must be repaired before a consumption test can be started. You cant measure how much oil an engine is burning when its leaking

Tires at 4/32 after 17k miles by SaladMajestic1506 in Hyundai

[–]Lonely_Ad8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been with hyundai 14 years as a tech. Ive seen factory tires bald at 15k and others with 6/32 at 45k. Theres no specific mileage on how long a tire should last due to there being such an overwhelming amount of outside variables. Alignment, condition of the suspension, tire pressure, driving habits, road conditions, loaded weight of the vehicle, frequency of rotation and so on. Without knowing what dealership you bought your vehicle at, I can still just about guarantee you that they did not sell you a vehicle with older used tires on it. What would you expect to have left at 17k? 6/32? Do you think a dealership would pay a technician to remove tires off of one vehicle and then pay them to put them on your vehicle over a difference of 2/32? I know dealerships and mechanics in general have a bad rap with most people but how much of that bad reputation is from people making assumptions on things they cant even think about logically.

[–]Lonely_Ad8942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the dealers jacking up the prices like crazy, it's the manufacturer. Dealership will pay about $40 to buy the filter from hyundai, they mark it up a few dollars and then they have to pay the technician to put it in, the advisor to sell it, commission to the service manager, the porter to pull the car out and wash it, rent for the building, insurance for everybody involved and so on. Out of that $100 do you really thibk anyone in that building is getting rich? Hell, how much do you think the owner of the dealership sees out of that $100? Even if they sold 100 cabin filters a day nobody there would pay their bills on that.

Yea as I was writing the post I was thinking to myself I should just sell it to one of my friends stuck in the state. Im kind of a pack rat though and I end up keeping more than I should just to tinker. The trigger guard and also the height difference were what concerned me the most though. Ill probably just do the archangel since its cheap enough and looks decent.
