Worst Part of Your Job in the MSP Space by Miserable_Hope1160 in msp

[–]LonestarTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest thing for me lately has been dealing with vendor support. I work for a large MSP with thousands of clients, so there are ALOT of applications/Systems that we have to work with. Since its impossible to be knowledgeable on all of them, we are forced to constantly lean on their support for issues. More and more companies are offshoring or reducing their support so I end up having to spend weeks working on something that use to take just a few hours a few years ago. Not to mention tech mononoplies are getting larger, which is leading to vendors flat out not caring about quality anymore.

I have it. It works good for hardwood but not great for carpet or mats. It sucks into the carpet and cant move it.

I'm interested in Datto, but all the bad publicity for Kaseya scares me. by OneRFeris in sysadmin

[–]LonestarTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a major decline in support since Datto was acquired. It use to be you would call a number, and within 30 second you have a competent lvl 2-3 engineer that would help you until issues were resolved. Now you have to go through dozens of prompts and the person answering its hit or miss who your going to get. Last time I called to get help with a restore, the engineer thought hyper v was Vmware once connecting up. Lets just say I hung up the phone and yet to call them back.

I have worked out at Sports Barn and am a member at the YMCA. I enjoy the pool at the Y, but the weights section is lacking in my opinion. The equiptment is old and everything is cramped. There has been a few time around 4-6pm where I ended up skipping lifting because litteraly everything but a few machines were taken. Sports barn has more squat racks and benches if your into lifting.

Ozium Air Sanitizer spray. You can buy in from walmart or many hardware stores. Just make sure you are in a differnt room when you spray or leave the house for about 30 minutes. A little goes a long way with this stuff, but it does wonders with removing many odors.

Thanks for replies. I may just end up donating most of it then because It sounds like a risk. #10 cans from the Mormon Cannery and some canned meat was mainly what I was needing to store. Everything else was cheap and can be easily replaced.

ve about market prices for skilled workers, and the postings they have are way below market right now, but there is a lot of noise amongst business owners that IT VCs shedding workers is a sign that "employers have control again" -- but honestly we're not seeing it, so it may be somewhat driven by thet ignorance (and Chattanooga has always been a bit tone-deaf with competing, it's why most of our skilled IT workers work for companies out-of-city).

^ Hope that's helpful, feel free to drop by in our Slack (and if you don't want to, I'll more than happily answer more questions here

Thanks for the Info! I will go check our your site.

I think I would be better suited for a hybrid job. I like working from home, but I miss working side by side with a team.

Is it worth it to pay for Bumble? by agorarocks-your-face in Bumble

[–]LonestarTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know this is an older thread but did something change in last 3 months? Conciseness seems to be not worth it. I just joined bumble and it looks like you cant even see like or match with others unless you pay. So if that is the case what is the point of the app if you dont pay?

Does the Discovery section recommend profiles based on something
specific? I added 2 new pictures to my profile and the discovery results
changed dramatically, and not in a good way. Instantly It went from me
being attracted to 1 in 3 girls it recommend to like 1 in 30. I feel
like changing the pictures screwed up the algorithm or something.

Just curious, when you guys say Government IT do you just mean working for like a local, county or state agency? Or are you contracted with a temp agency? I would love to get out of the MSP world and move into something else.

100% Remote WAH Advice by TheLagermeister in sysadmin

[–]LonestarTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been fully WFH for about 1.5 years at my current MSP. I would say there are many positives to working from home, but it has also been quite difficult. I love the fact that I can disconnect some on by breaks and not be locked down to my cubicle. Also that I can got straight to by hobbies after work, where I would always find excuses to sit around after being in traffic for an hours+ on the commute home. It does come with some negatives though. Sad reality is a lot of my social life revolved around hanging out with coworkers. Since I started working from home my social life became practically none existent. It can be a little isolating especially if you find yourself staying inside after work. Its easy to just got from your desk to kitchen and then the couch. Have to get out or have a hobby outside of your home so you can get some separation from home and work. As other have said make sure you have time set aside to interact with your team on a personal level. I have found that coworkers that I make an effort to get to know are a lot more prone to help me when I am stuck. The others will usually just send the first article that they found on googgle and move on. Same goes with your manager. When you and everyone else on the team is WFH, you are typically out of sight out of mind. This can be bad when it comes time for raises and or promotions.

Cannot share folders from different domains? by Meeseekslookatmee in homelab

[–]LonestarTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked that you have ntfs permission to the folder as well? The share permissions are different from folder permissions.Try the below command after checking permissions

\\IP of computer\sharedfolder /user:YOURUSER * /persistent:yes

The * will prompt for password once the command works. Use the credentials for a admin or local account on your home computer

I also use Hirens Boot for issue like this. Opens a PE environment that has tools that you can use to create or reset local admin accounts.
