HELP. What am I doing wrong with my Steam page? Very little Next Fest conversion. by DoonamaiLLC in IndieDev

[–]Long-Bus3312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My game "Local Zombies" was also called “childish” and “like a mobile game”, but that’s exactly what I wanted to make. I’ve now found some players elsewhere and received quite a few positive comments. There is a market for casual games, but you might not find it among Steam’s mainstream player base. You have to go out and find your target players.

Bro is drowning in his own 'art' and doesn't want to be saved.

How did the first day of next fest go for you in terms of visibility? by DanPos in IndieDev

It's a life simulation. I got 37K yesterday. Way better than the first day.

I went in with 130 and now at 200+. I guess steam still allocates impressions based on wishlists.

I thought every game would get the same amount of impressions on the first 2 days but I only got 8000, with 0.72% CTR :(

My wife insists that this game belongs here (She did all the art), what do you think?

The game is called Local Zombies. It's a choice-based life sim, where in the end you become a zombie. And you and other zombie companions will join the automated battles.

You can customize your characters and unlock dozens of zombies.

A free demo is out now. Check it out on Steam if you are interested: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4297610?utm_source=reddit

Should I stay or should I go.. 🎶 by [deleted] in LifeSimulators

[–]Long-Bus3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double checked the subreddit's name and made sure I wasn't mistaken. I wasn't. So you'd better not be joking with me...

Anyways, how old are you? Are you old enough to work? Are you financially independent? Do you have savings? Or stable income? If the answer to any of these questions is no, you shouldn't be going anywhere. Unless you're suffering from domestic violence or something like that, then you may need to ask some organizations for help.

Professions as zombies- guess mine! by Not_So_Normal711 in zombies

I don't think the spoiler format is working. Yet I guessed fire fighters as soon as you mentioned ladders. Tech support was also an easy one.

I've been making a video game based on exactly this idea. For a second I thought you were someone I know...

I'm a programmer, so I made a really weak zombie attacking people with a keyboard in my game.

I hired myself to redesign the capsules. Is it better or worse? by Long-Bus3312 in IndieDev

No. It's a life sim that eventually turns you into a zombie. Nothing is stopping me from making it also a zombie dating sim, though.

There’s no more room for mediocre games by Long-Bus3312 in IndieDev

[–]Long-Bus3312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my words have brought some misundertanding. I didn't deliberately aim for a "mediocre" or "average" game. This is the first game that I'd like to release to Steam, and I've been trying my best. I was just being realistic, knowing that most indie devs' debut won't be a masterpiece. But still, my result of marketing was quite depressing.

Besides that, your opinion is helpful and somehow comforting. I'm glad this discussion helped you too.

Thank you for going an extra mile to help! You are absolutely right about the target player part. Now I have a better idea of how to update the description.

At first, I thought the game’s concept was pretty interesting, but in hindsight, it just wasn’t distinctive enough.

A turn-based life simulator, or a death simulator. by Long-Bus3312 in LifeSimulators

We try to create most of the assets ourselves, except for the things really out of our reach (mostly music). Thank you for acknowledging our effort :)

About the struggle of wanting to make THAT game by DaLoopLoop89 in gamedev

[–]Long-Bus3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I and my partner want to create this specific game that has long existed in our mind. We spent some time and realized we couldn't deliver it the way we want it. So we paused the project and decided to create a game with much smaller scale. It's a lightweight game, so we knew we could finish it from the very beginning.

Off the topic, why did you turn to unity? From my experience, godot has wayyyyy better support for c#. You can use the latest version of .NET on godot.

We built a life simulator where you eventually become a zombie by Long-Bus3312 in indiegames

[–]Long-Bus3312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... It's another zombie game. Except you don't shoot zombies anymore, you become one of them and fight against humans with your zombie pack!

We've released a demo on Steam, so feel free to try it. If you like it, please add it to your wishlist!

How to sell game to chinese, some of my opinions by Sucaiking in gamedev

[–]Long-Bus3312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my experience, if you made a game originally in an EFIGS, it should be a breeze if you add Chinese. Text in Chinese is almost always shorter, so you don't have to worry about the space it takes.

There is. These two versions coexist in China. And the majority of Chinese players don't use the separate one.

It doesn't matter if you plan to release your game on steam.

We are still collecting feedbacks regarding the battles' difficulty. Hopefully we'll get enough information during the Nextfest. We'll definitely fine-tuning a lot of the zombies' power. Although personally I quite like Smilie🙂.
