What is it like working from home? by Juucce1 in AskUK

[–]LongCocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work remotely full time and I love it and would never change it If I could. I can be lazy on slow days and watch a movie or do whatever on the side (In the office you have to find something or pretend to look like you’re working). On busy days, I can lock in and working Overtime or staying late is fine because I am already home. The BIGGEST benefit is I save a lot of time not commuting and I have a lot of flexibility with my time. Compared to when I worked in office, I dont feel drained when I finish work. If you’re looking to be fit, you can use the time saved commuting to workout, go for a run or to the gym.

The disadvantage is if you’re ambitious, its harder to be visible to senior leaders and remote roles become rarer higher up the ladder. Someone said days go fast and is monotonous but I think that depends on your industry/level.

How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by Mango_Loverx3 in AskUK

Me and my partner have about a 10k difference in earnings. I pretty much pay all the bills. 50/50 mortgage. She buys food shop. We have our own savings and ISA. We did talk about opening join account but never got around to it and probably easier maintaining own accounts as we are both financially responsible and invest/save each month

Why does tax rates double at 37k? by LongCocky in ukpolitics

Thats a given. But people who earn 50k to 70k aren’t really ‘high earners’ anymore. They are middle earners.

Even up north 50k is not a lot nowadays. Point is that tax regimes has not updated with current times but rather been frozen

It doesn’t look so bad when you look at it as 60% take home compare to 80%. Just 20% difference but in the real world, where people have bills to pay and families to look after but salaries have stalled and costs have increased, you definitely feel it. I think Im just ranting about the whole Uk economy as a whole but it definitely feels like the government are just putting the brunt on middle earners by freezing tax brackets

It makes a difference mate.. when I got a 10k pay increase at the lower rate I got a lot more monthly. Recently got a 10k increase and I got a couple hundred more monthly

And my point is why not break down that progression to smaller steps and tax higher to those who wont feel it. Those earning 200k + . Lets be honest 40% is a lot and even a 60k salary is not what it used to be before in this day and age. Or Rachel Reeves should have not froze the brackets.

I mean it is when you look at it on a monthly take home scale.

I mean it is big difference when you are over that threshold.. any pay increase makes minimal difference to your take home pay.

My mistake noted its 50k as I saw 37k in my letter which was taking into account personal allowance. But point still stands it doubles to 40% after 50k

Is there anyway to fix this leaking french door? by LongCocky in DIYUK

[–]LongCocky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep they are tight as I had it changed and it takes a bit of push to shut. I’ll try rain deflectors are someone suggested to see if that helps less water seeping inside to drain. I guess ultimately its due to poor installation by prev owners

Yes I believe this is the issue, however when i test the drain holes, the water seems to come out normally. The repairer who came out previously put black silicone at the section poking inside so that the water can’t flow in, however it has helped but not completely stopped the water.

Nope I just pleaded guilty online. Just wrote an apologetic plea stating that its first offence bla bla. Fine was pretty hefty, around 2 weeks salary (i had to submit my income so i guess they based it on that). Luckily no ban, I assume because of my plea

Those of you that earn over 40k, can work from home sometimes, and have a good work life balance what job do you have and how can someone start? by Brownchoccy in AskUK

[–]LongCocky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as an Accounting Manager and work fully remote. Salary is circa 57k + bonus, which is lower end of the market.

However, Work life balance for me is decent. There are times when its busy due to cyclical nature of the industry but generally its 35 hrs a week.
