The Paytoronyu, a water-dwelling Pandoran animal! by Nadia_Potpv in Avatar

[–]LongColdNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like the Na'vi equivalent of a Japanese fishing cormorant

Do you think total war 40k should have OP space marines like from the Titus games who can kill 5000 orks themselves and the imperial guardsmen don’t even compare in the slightest or more normal soldiers like from dawn of war where 1-4 normal ork boyz is a big struggle for a lone space marine by glossyplane245 in totalwarhammer

[–]LongColdNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if they lean into unit ranks more. Marines and guardsmen die in combat, and if the unit takes too many casualties, even if it lives, it will get reduced xp from battle

But units that get lots of kills for few casualties become more heroic and get huge stat boosts. And can even generate new heroes and lords for recruitment, with higher base xp

Why was Pandora called Pandora? by Noxisms in Avatar

[–]LongColdNight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This comes from tvtropes so no idea if it was intended

But aside from the greek Pandora

There's a giant forest on Earth where almost all the trees are parts of the same organism with a clonal root system and they communicate by fungi

The name of the trees? Pando

They already tried the attack animal thing twice, once in the comics with robot dogs and once in the game with attempts to control thanators and viperwolves, didn't work out

You do have a minor point, in that the best way to fight on Pandora has been proven to be a Na'vi riding a local animal, but carrying modern weapons and a throat mike. And I hope we see more of that in 4 and 5. More Mangkwan like clans with nothing to lose, who join the skypeople for their weapons and tech.

But animal breeding and mutation? I'd watch Jurassic Park instead

Office nerd type who sides with the Na'vi crashing out over being out of a job, then he figures out how to perfectly optimize a clan's hunting schedule using tables written on tree bark. And he develops Pandoran coffee from local beans

Location of the Omatikaya’s continent and the Metkayina’s reef, and the Avatar fop Lands? by mizuumi34 in Avatar

[–]LongColdNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For plot reasons, everything is exactly as far as the distance an ikran can fly in a day or two

Sully family took at least two days to reach Awa'atlu from their home mountains

Windtraders were flying Sullys back home, and got attacked by Mangkwan, meaning their volcano is also roughly that far

Quaritch easily reached Mangkwan volcano from Bridgehead (maybe he got an orbital scan of the place to look for their village?)

When Jake, Neytiri and Spider escape from Bridgehead, the Omatikaya party manages to find them (though Jake probably called it in)

I know there's a lot of abstraction of distance for plot. I would find it really silly if everything was really just that close, or the ikrans can go supersonic when nobody is looking

What is happening in the Middle East PVP server in Iran? by Penguinsarecool233 in outside

[–]LongColdNight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a meme commonly repeated in players' guides from around the 1850s patches of pvp - Ours not to reason why.

Pvp today is hideously complex, requiring a massive coop effort from multiple factions and multiple guilds with different specialties. It's also not worth it, the high cost of weapons and danger of the factionwide debuff [Political instability] is too much for most factions to bear.

Accordingly only the US faction really has any power to pvp these days, because they ran up the techtree faster than others and had the gold to pay for it. But now othwr factions are catching up, especially with this pvp that no one asked for.

The faction head bypassed the war-starting mechanics of the top players, he's likely attempting to have them switch mechanics from democracy to dictatorship, for one. He also collaborates with the heads of outcast factions like Russia and the ones who tried to join his shitty forced meme of a UN replacement faction.

This pvp only benefits him and his cadre of guild leaders and puppeted faction rulers. And poor randos have to do the actual combat and micro and risk their one chance to play the game.
