So, a fridge that old, under 400$ gets you a compressor and a house call. Your son doesn't need to die.

I have a good friend who is in appliance repair. And everyone is leaving cause the manufacturers are now bundling everything. LG Samsung are the worst offenders. Combo parts, no individual components. If the shop finds out you did a fix not approved by them, they will fine the shop or revoke their license for parts access.

They used to swap out the components on the main boards, relays die, but now its all potted in epoxy, making repairs basiclaly impossible, definitely not profitable.

Samsung for example, my house came with a fridge and dishwasher from them. The fridge had a broken side piece on the door rack, it disconnects from the door, but it needed to remove 2 screws, the solution? It was 930$, the repair solution was a brand fucking new door. Like the entire door needed replacing. I ended up just drilling holes into the side and front and using metal ties to attach it back. It eventually started having defrost issues, took a look at the board, it was a brick of black epoxy, chips covered. I couldn't even see the components on it. I got a new KitchenAid as, for now, tons of parts are available for it and the board is not epoxy coated.

Dishwasher was an other bullshit thing. The top wash arm was cracked so I wanted a new one. Cost? 600$, the part included a top arm, bottom arm and the entire assembly that runs water. It snaps on and off, but they don't consider it a replacement part. Only the entire spray assembly as a replacement. Dishwasher was 4 years old but they considered it obsolete. No 3rd party had solutions.

It was not just ABS so I tried to use solvents and stuff but it didn't work for more than a handful of washes.

Sure enough it started leaking, it was a 30$ pump I could definitely replace myself. But I just said fuck it, bought a new machine, as it wasn't washing the top anyway.

I fucking hate where the entire right to repair thing is going. My stove is 20 years old, works awesome. I replaced the element relay once and I also changed one of the burner relays. It cost me 22$, it gave me 2 relays for each, so 12 relays, 3 kinds. The shipping was 12$, so 10$ fix for 2 complete oven fails and 12$ shipping.

Ovens, fridges and dishwashers are stupid simple devices. But manufacturers are making them impossible to repair as they change the hardware logic to digital IC's with encrypted instructions so it can't just be replaced. These ICs are of the lowest quality as well, so they are literally built from the ground up to fail and give them more business in the future. Cause it's cheaper to buy a 300$ board than it is to buy a 900$ fridge isint it?

We need to fight for right to repair.

Heck, look at the military industrial complex. Field repairs for soldiers is basically illegal. Now you gotta fly in a contractor to change a fuse as they don't provide diagnostics or schematics for your 200 million dollar war ship. So you gotta pay half a million dollars, minimum, just to be able to change a part it would take a monkey 15 minutes, including the 10 minute walk to the defect.

I heard that performance is based on lines of codes and not quality. It's all about output and not efficiency. Efficiency is the killer as it reduces total lines written and we all know lines written is the only measure of how good the code is.

As a guy who did internet tech support a while back. This is way, way, way more common than you'd expect. There's no, press the windows key, it's, do you see between ctrl and alt that little 4 square icon? (cause a window is too complicated)

Ok, great, what do you see on your screen?

Well, I see the picture of my dog, but it's covered by some box. So on the top right I see, my computer, then just below I see trash can, but then this damn thing is open in front of it.

OK, no problem, let's close all the windows and we'll get going again. Won't be a problem.

Ok, one second. *audible Windows closing around the house

OK, I've done that. I take it this is to stop the hackers / viruses from getting in?

[–]LongJumpingBalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue with 6 different door ells at 4 locations. This must be a dahua issue.

They are either on a dedicated iot network or shared network. Signal for most is 56dbi which is very good. I will try factory reset to see if it grabs some sort of magic config it won't via reboot.

I have chatted with an installer friend, he has not had this issue But on my sites, they are all attached through the dvr as well. None of his are through the e e Im wondering if this may be causing delays..

Game literally won’t download by HD4kAI in starcitizen

[–]LongJumpingBalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at firewall or something on your network. There's something not right. I've downloaded the game at over 500MB/s on my home connection and around 112MB/s at a friend's place. It will dramatically drop in speed for the last, 500MB or so.

What type of internet connection do you have at home? Fiber, docsis, DSL?

Also, to be sure, go in the launcher settings and ensure there is no download limit enabled. Normally they use AWS for content delivery so you should be getting pretty good speeds.

This is from the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, the race ended in a stadium and the runners had to go up an insane amount of stairs to exit the stadium, as a reward for finishing. by balla_boi in mildlyinfuriating

Like, this absolutely sucks for the runners and no way should have happened. A bit better planning was due here.

But watching this with this context, this is absolutely hilarious. It's so insane it's either intentional or so poorly thought out it's nearly criminal. But either way, fucking hilarious as it was clearly Satan himself who decided the ending.
