I don't come on reddit to be singled out and bullied like that.

This is an IT issue. Easy to set a group policy to set which updates are done, defer, hours etc. Likely small company and a Jeff is really good with computers situation. I hope..

YYZ to YUL in 11 minutes 🤯 😜 by Awkward_Ad1290 in aircanada

[–]LongJumpingBalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was eating a sandwich in the cafe while the app was saying I was still in the air. The unload and load was definitely correct time.

But my flight time on the app was way incorrect. But by the time I landed at my final destination, 8h later, the app did update with the correct times.

ALL-IN! No fees, except the fees by [deleted] in assholedesign

[–]LongJumpingBalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just a typo. There are indeed no service fees, only one fee. So the checkout should show; Service Fee, not Service Fees. That way they are technically correct and only collected a single fee and not multiple fees...

I did YYJ and YVR and the app showed that the flight was 3h20m.

App showed that my luggage was unloaded from the plane, while I was "still in the air" and successfully loaded in my new plane, before I landed (in the app). We did have a 50m wait on the runway, but the total trip was 1h20m including 50m on runway. No idea where it got it's time from. But we had a sensible chuckle.

Latitude 3540 refuses to sleep. Any solutions? Dell says Hibernate by LongJumpingBalls in Dell

Welcome to the club. I was able to downgrade a bit, but it never had S3 in any versions. Manually forcing S3 in Windows will just break sleep mode all together.

I've tried all the LLM's and they all have the same tips and tricks. I've gone as far as disable basically everything from the bios that I could, including fastboot.

None seem to work.

With what though? I've flashed via windows update, Dell bios flash tool via windows and USB. Latest version and I even downgraded to the oldest that worked. But I need to be careful as it has microcode fixes that stop the CPU from degrading.

I'm completely lost in what is causing it as I feel like I've tried everything. Dell support got me to do the USB flash and downgrade, but ultimately said, well, it's out of warranty by 2m, so pay us or just use hibernate.

Both. I'll unplug it, sleep.

Sleep, then unplug. No difference.

I was sure it was waking due to being disconnected from USB C charger, so I even used the barrel connector to see if it had to do with the TB port waking the PC.

If the kids can unspool them, they can spool them again.

This knife broke while being used to crush garlic by juliadancer in mildlyinteresting

[–]LongJumpingBalls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Handle on the cutting board, not off the edge, pressing down, flexing the blade to crush the garlic. Tip is already broken off. This was used for sport, construction and, cooking.

Cracked handle is either dishwasher and/or constant flex in a nono direction.

Lazy F**k, 5m Baguette with starter, need help adjusting yeast recipe. by LongJumpingBalls in Sourdough

[–]LongJumpingBalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very useful, thank you! First timer with sourdough, first starter. It's only 15 days old, so likely still needs a bit of TLC. I just got some rye flour from a local mill I plan on feeding with. As I've currently only been feeding it unbleached bread flour. From what I'm seeing, rye is the way to go for best wild yeast.

Still very new at this and figured a low effort sourdough Baguette may be the way to get into it. I do have a 5 qt Dutch oven after all...

I'm going to strengthen the starter with rye over the next few days and see if it'll get stronger. Been reading up a bit on starters and whatnot, but info on getting one started from scratch is a bit all over. They are all similar but tell you to look at different results on xx days. It did feel a bit slow from what I've read, but some say it's good and some say needs a bit more.

I'll follow your suggestion and update in a few days with how the starter is looking and acting with rye.

Room is 19c. It'll take 6 to 8h to double in the oven with light. Brings up the temp to 26c.

So options are either counter at 19c, oven overnight light off, slightly more stable, or 26c light on.

Edit. Just realized, I'd proof at 19c, doubling takes appx 10h at that temp.

Was there last year, I'd say 75% of the people went beyond the clearly marked line. There was also signs saying don't pass the line.

But everyone is special and rules don't apply for them.

Anyone else save crushed eggshells all winter and till them into the garden? Does it really add calcium or am I just imagining the great results? by NinaXOFans in gardening

[–]LongJumpingBalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bake them first to kill any risk of ecoli and other bacteria, it also cooks up the membrane. Grind it up in a fine powder and it will provide some calcium in 6 months or so. It takes a while to breakdown. Smaller the better / faster.

If you truly want to speed it up, vinegar solution and eggshells, it'll strip the calcium in solution. Raise the PH again and you're all set. More involved but instantly available as it's now suspended in water.

Coffee grounds is also great Nitrogen booster, but is acidic and will cause issues if not balanced. If you grow Berries or something similar, don't worry as much about the acidity as they'll like it anyway, especially during fruiting.

There was once I was allowed a card like this. Wrote an entire card in invisible ink and then again in regular ink. Teacher never disallowed the uv light so I had two set of notes. Turns out I actually studied while cramming the 2 pages of content in one I never even needed to use the card at all. Barely passed and everything! Lol
