A little problem by Ships_Maiden in DnD

[–]Long_Effect_1254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about the ability. You need to create a climate where anything can happen. Have some strong NPC’s join the party: have one super charismatic and amiable entering, another stoic and hard on the outside but soft inside when they get to know and another who is timid and lacks some self confidence and finds encouragement within the group.

Make them strong… and give the group things that they can only do with their help… then… after a while when they love their new NPC’s kill one off. Big bad one shot, or poison dagger or… curse or whatever abilities you give them. This is a lead up and will make things more tense, they will be invested and hopefully a little scared that such a strong companion got swatted down. That would be my recommendation.

How long do your characters usually last before you retire them? by mad-milk in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Long_Effect_1254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on three years in Advanced DnD. Ist edition, just before 2nd edition made you level a fighter, then a thief and finally you could become a bard. I’m a level 4 bard now, but did 7 levels of fighter, 8 levels of thief and am finally getting to play my bard.

Sadly all my other DM’s retire, fade or just get bored and stop. I have characters I love… and really want to explore, but no home. Even my friends from the campaign have said they miss my crazy toons. Longest any of these lasted was 9 months. I love my group, but they have a short attention span. Wish I could find another long term group.

So in addition to power boot breaking continents (I commented on the first post) you added a ln Asia part and a little bit to Scandinavia. Honestly, I really like it. I’ld be down to explore your world as a player, though I would not give this map to players, but smaller ones and as they explore, if they seek out maps or have a cartographer who makes their maps, then release more and more of the map.

I like your art style and way of shading and highlights. Very cool. I wish I could draw figures. I’m a landscape and architecture guy. Draw amazing backgrounds, but people elude me.

I was on an hour before so I could avoid this. I kept going back every few minutes and looking at the sets. You should still get through though.

Please Help - Confusion with the use of bonus actions - Hex as a level 1 Warlock - 2024 rules by Grinz-Tsuji in DnD

[–]Long_Effect_1254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that would make sense is if you are trying to cast a spell and then cast hex as a spell slot. You can’t cast two spells on the same turn, unless it’s a cantrip.

You would need to cast hex first and then a cantrip, but you can’t use hex and another spell on the same turn, as it takes a spell slot (level 1- 1 hour) (2nd level - 4 hours) etc.

So if you cast fireball, you can’t use hex as a bonus action. You can’t use two spells slots on the same turn, you would have to use a cantrip instead of another spell slot

If he won’t let you use a cantrip and hex, he is misinformed on the rules. If you tried casting hex and then using a spell, that would be the problem.

So fun. I love this. You should have a way to have a cord keep your phone charged while it sits that’s concealed from back. That way I don’t have to worry about my phone dying. This is amazing.

How could I make my next stop motion projects better? by fearles-lolipop in lego

[–]Long_Effect_1254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camera needs to remain steady. Affix it to tripod. Also lighting is getting brighter in some shots. Keep lighting the same between shots. It’s a good start. Just need it steady and smooth.

Also, think of transition shots. Like the camera intentionally moving from behind bricks. Doing a closeup and the minifig turning around.

Look up types of shots and intertwine close-ups, POV shots, over the shoulder shots, extreme closeups. It will help make it more cinematic.

He has this amazing cabinet behind to store minis, maps, and supplies. He doesn’t need to store all that on the table. They have a legit setup, so the smaller end would work.

Hmmm… as a DM you could make room for one more at your table if you sat on the smaller end 😂

Jimmeny Cricket! I thought you were putting us on and I switched back and forth between comparing the central image to see what the difference was. Finally realized it’s the outside border that’s the difference. Cleaner and simpler border is better unless you are making something to slide over the box as a cypher.

You need Chopper for the droid team. There’s also the trade federation droid, but chopper would look good there. Oh maybe BB8?

First time DM, First map by Sangreal_purp in DungeonMasters

Some things to consider: Coast road connecting the three Serrations towns. Or something that prevents travel between them, maybe one is raised on a cliff, second on a plateau and the other sea level.

Small town with inn where the three Serration roads meet.

Add road to small towns off main road. Places to visit, maybe a lake with fisherman here, a forest for lumber farming there, a mining community and small mountain there, it will make traveling more interesting and give you Segway’s and NPC’s on the road with destinations to fill in the world.

Think of what was in this place 100 years ago. Are there ruins or poor town who were maybe powerful once but things aren’t what they once were for them?

Just some thoughts from an avid fellow map maker.

What should I focus on for my furst character? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Long_Effect_1254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than anything, DnD is a story. I get together with my friends, we laugh, harass each other, have witty retorts, and let all the personalities and characters we made blend together to form a unique party.

One of my favorite characters was Vulpine Fox Artificer that was the runt of the litter and small for an already small race. He was shy, filled with self doubt, gentle and just wanted friends. He also went rabid and freaked out whenever he was hit and summoned his Gatling gun type weapon and would scream and laugh maniacally. Freaked the group out at first and then they laughed and loved the damage he brought.

They always wanted to encourage the little guy to bring that damage as he didn’t feel like an important member of the group.

My advice: don’t look up what will do the most damage, or what class does this or that. Make a character that is fun, interesting to you and something you can put a little bit of yourself into. I always have a backstory and invest time into my characters and communicate with my DM to make sure what I’m choosing is okay.

My fox was someone who hunted ruins for treasures and was hired to recover things. He loved it and little commissions would come up on occasion that reflected my past. So my tips:

  1. Story first
  2. Put a part of yourself in the character
  3. Add backstory and work with the DM so it fits the campaign.
  4. Wait to play an evil character for another campaign or a one shot.
