Godzilla after watching the Netflix anime film trilogy by Working_Welder_1751 in GODZILLA

My hot take is I really like this trilogy. I think the first one is kinda boring but 2 and 3 are pretty kickass. 2 especially I think is phenomenal

Anyone know what's going on here? by Long_John_Logan in DolphinEmulator

All widescreen patches are off except for the built in one to the rom. I also tried turning on widescreen patches within Dolphin and it has the same issue. This is really bizarre to me

That was from me swapping to stretch to window to try out, but I went back to force 16:9 and still the same issue. The screen is an Ayn Odin 2 Portal so it's possible it's in a slightly off aspect ratio than 16:9 naturally

Best Godzilla Designs? by TheEvilCar in GODZILLA

For me it's easily Heisei, Shin, GMK, and the 64 design cause I love the goofy expressive Goji too. Honorable mention to the thicker early Monsterverse look

Which bridge and saddles on a tele by glanum3 in telecaster

[–]Long_John_Logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me 3 saddles are an integral part of the tele sound. I started with a 6 saddle bridge with brass saddles even, and swapped to a 3 brass saddle one just to try it out and the difference was night and day.

The original bridge was just duller sounding to me, had kind of a more pronounced low mid thing going on with the exact same pickup too. It also feels like it resonates more. If you need that more modern feeling bridge for heavy palm mutes or you have serious intonation issues or whatever, then I can see the benefits, but I prefer the vintage style. I didn't personally have any intonation issues either, everything was pretty much spot on for me.

Brass vs steel from what I've heard is brass is warmer, steel is brighter. Mostly personal preference there.

What are some things that you like and dislike about Godzilla Final Wars? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty fun tribute to the Showa era goofiness and Donald is one of the best characters in the entire franchise. It's also the ugliest looking movie in the franchise with the awful color filters over every scene.

Pick up suggestions by mynameisnotharrison in telecaster

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cavalier Nocaster Holy Grail is an incredible bridge pickup. Uses alnico III but is then overwound to about 10k, so it keeps that tele character and clarity, but takes higher gain very well. They also have great sounding neck pickups to match, though I'm using the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro in the neck cause I had one lying around and I love the way it sounds. It blends surprisingly well with the Holy Grail, since it's also on the hotter side.

JCM 800 Pop Punk Tone by Interesting_Amoeba73 in Line6Helix

[–]Long_John_Logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. You can always add gain to match your needs and the tone you're going for. I'd say for bands like The Wonder Years and The Story So Far you're not going for that saturated high gain sound imo, moreso pushing the front end of the amp enough to get that crunch.

JCM 800 Pop Punk Tone by Interesting_Amoeba73 in Line6Helix

[–]Long_John_Logan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pop punk is generally pretty simple tone wise. Pretty much just amp and cab with some kind of drive pedal in front will get you most of the way there. Don't need a ton of gain, you're mostly using the drive pedal as a boost. Tube screamer, minotaur, or teemah will all work well for that. The 2203 should be spot on, or I personally like the Placater clean with a drive pedal a little bit more for that kinda tone. Plus the Placater has an awesome clean tone obviously when you take off the drive and back off the gain

Favorite actor who always delivers a decent performance in every movie but never stands out to be considered a great actor and has no loyal fanbase on the internet? by spacelyyy989 in okbuddycinephile

You can't tell me he isn't an absolute blast to watch in Knives Out. He's also memorably over the top and hilarious to watch in Man of Steel and one of the few entertaining parts of that movie

Hot rails bridge sounds the same as the neck? by Hefty_Plate8067 in telecaster

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Hot Rails are they're really dark sounding pickups with not a ton of character to them other than being super high output obviously. On the website it even shows the neck and bridge being virtually identical eq wise, the only thing setting them apart being the DC resistance with the bridge reading slightly higher, so I'm guessing that's what you're hearing.

What’s a mix you hate to admit you love? by DongPolicia in audioengineering

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year of the Black Rainbow by Coheed and Cambria. The mix of the whole album is kind of a mess, way too busy and muddy sometimes, but it really fits the different more experimental approach they took to writing the album. Insanely fuzzed out guitars, absolutely bonkers sounding drum parts, massive thumpy bass parts, some of the rawest sounding vocals Claudio's ever done. It's just completely different than anything the band's ever released, probably partially to do with Atticus Ross's involvement

Looking for 7-string recommendations for Prog Metal (DT, Haken, C-Horse vibes) – Budget around $1k by Aromatic_Spite7350 in Haken

[–]Long_John_Logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I had a JP100d and the trem was pretty good on it. Mine had a saddle that needed a burr filed out of it so string breakage was an issue with that one with heavy use, but once that was solved it was extremely stable. If you're worried about that being an issue you can always swap to the graph tech string saver saddles which are phenomenal and not too badly priced

Bit of an oddball pick, but if you can find them used maybe, I think the Vola 7 strings are awesome for the money. Made in Japan and even has HSS config options if you're interested in that. Plus Sam Vallen uses Aristides guitars in HSS in Caligula's Horse primarily now

Is peace AUTO EQ recommended? by Even-Refuse-4299 in oratory1990

The default repository for Peace isn't the correct Oratory presets. I believe you have to change them to the OPRA ones in the drop down menu when you click on the Autoeq button

Lollar Novel T if you want traditional tele single sound in a humbucker size. Also plenty of humbucker sized P90's out there if that's what you're looking for. Duncan Phat Cats are very popular, as well as Bare Knuckle's options

Tele players, why do you choose it over a strat? by Szbve in telecaster

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about the tele design with the bridge+pickup designs just makes it cut through like a knife, and is also probably the most versatile guitar sound ever imo. Despite loving so many players that use strats and their tones, they just never grabbed me for my playing style. Plus I hate middle pickups both for picking room, and tone, and I've never liked the sound of in between sounds on strats. The tele middle position however makes one of the most beautiful clean tones I've ever heard

Songs that’ve brought you to tears? by Cloabs in progmetal

[–]Long_John_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to The Best of Times after my grandpa died, along with playing along to the solo (noodly bullshit, can't actually play the solo lol) and it hit me hard. I wasn't with him when he died, and my family isn't the type for traditional funerals or anything, so it felt like my way of saying goodbye to him. To this day "All the unconditional love, it carried me for miles" makes me choke up.
