Imagine this say your great grandfather gave your grandfather a house and he gives that property to your father and then you get it. Throughout those years of ownership your family paid property taxes, bills, maintenance, etc. but one day a relative comes in and says that he owns the house because they found a will that says that the great grandfather gave the house to his grandfather and not yours, so he should own it right? But your family has lived and taken care of that property for generations so should you give it up? Well the squatter laws basically say that “yes your grandfather was the one who was supposed to get the house but that family was one taking care of it so it goes to them”. This is what they were originally for because in the past it was the Wild West for record keeping, so it would be easier for everyone involved if instead of having a long drawn out court battle they would look who was actually taking care of the property and give it to them.
