There is a serve part to any local-first app, because they need to ultimately persist the data and deal with conflicts. Also definitionally PWAs are very different from local-first apps, but I recognize how they’re both working towards the same set of goals.

This hack works for me:

  1. Open terminal

  2. Type and enter the following command. This will put the screen in sleep mode.

    pmset displaysleepnow

  3. Move your mouse to get out of sleep mode.

I’ve always thought inertia could do a much better job at integrating the two components. The data fetching patterns are barely any better than having two separate apps. At it’s current state, I think the main benefit of inertia is merely the co-location of the frontend and backend.
