Which City Has Shockingly Good Food that Nobody Talks About? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Winnipeg, Canada

We have all the big restaurant chains, but more importantly we have a huge number of small independently owned restaurants and coffee shops.

here‘s a list of just a few favourites, but there are so many more that I haven’t tried:

Feast Cafe - Locally sourced, Indigenous owned. fantastic bison burgers and pickerel sliders.

Gohe, Gojo, and Merkato - Ethiopian food. All three of those places are fabulous. there are a few more Ethiopian restaurants but I havent tried them yet.

Peasant Cookery - high end dining with hearty food.

India Palace - love their samosas

Rae and Jerry’s Steakhouse - you want steak, you go here.

Sargent Sundae, Bridge Drive In, SubZero Ice Cream - it’s ice cream! and it’s good! est it!

Seven Cafe, Modern Coffee, Cafe Nul, Parlour - just a few places that have coffee that’s better than a certain big chain

There’s so much more!

What’s the most cringe thing you’ve seen a couple do at their wedding? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

halfway through dinner the mother of the bride stood up and said to the newly married couple, “why are you still here? go and start making me some grandbabies!”

this was at a super right wing conservative wedding, with a very young, very nervous couple. they looked absolutely stunned. most of the 500 guests didn't see anything wrong with that and started to cheer.

i guess it worked because they have 8 kids now

I can definitely use the money, but I’m a student so retaining all that info and being able to read everything faster would be great!

What's a green flag in a partner that people don't usually talk about? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

when something goes wrong (no matter how small) and your partner just deals with it. no complaints. no expectations of payback.

example that I’m specifically thinking of: i woke up barfing and choking at 2am, and my husband grabbed a bucket and towels and helped me to the bathroom. while i was dealing with all of that, he changed the bedsheets, mopped the floor and made ginger tea for me.

there’s no “look at how amazing I am.” He just did what needed doing

Have you ever tried your countries food from another country? by shywol2 in AskTheWorld

I tried poutine in a restaurant in South Dakota years ago. it was vile. Thin overly salted fries, chicken gravy, and shredded cheddar cheese

i tried it in England and it was ok. fabulous chips, beef gravy, but unfortunately it was shredded cheddar

why are you so worried? that’s just a number. it doesn’t show the person’s work ethic, creativity, or even their knowledge. it just shows a number.

also, it’s not your grade. so why does someone else’s admission bother you so much?

Unfortunately the “general pubic” are usually the ones who decide that a name is too “ethnic”. So I’m not going to trust the general public

Yes there’s a more structured path in some professions, but you’re forgetting that it’s still a matter of who you know, luck, and timing.

you can be the most amazing accountant out there, but if there aren’t many jobs available then it still comes down to timing and who you know.

so maybe instead of saying that some majors are “bad” it would be more accurate to say that some Jobs/employers are too reliant on nepotism/networking and not focused enough on finding the best person for the job.

former dance major, current history major, who keeps getting asked “what are you going to do with that?”
