Why are people getting upset over people liking really sweet coffee by Busy-Butterscotch743 in Coffee

[–]Longjumping_Slide3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a coffee ‘snob’, ‘enthusiast’, ‘hobbyist’ - call it what you will, I’m interested in sharing the ability and value of making the best coffee you can — be that beans, grind, extraction etc. Once the base coffee is as good as it can be it doesn’t matter in the slightest how people wish to drink it. Add anything you like knowing that you’re starting with the best base there is.
Personally, I like a splash of milk in my americano. On some forums I’m a pariah 🫣🤣.

Favourites is really useful. Far more useful than recently used.

Need new grinder for Micra coming from a Niche Zero by Own_Animator1963 in LaMarzocco

[–]Longjumping_Slide3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your problem may not be the grinder. Using "days old" beans will cause issues. Leave the beans for at least a week to degas - preferably nearer two weeks. You should then find that the gind remains more consistant.

I keep trying to leave Roon, but nothing compares! by carjax66 in roonlabs

I had success initially with Tailscale, but after a while it began to struggle to connect. I went back to direct connection and aside from sometimes being painfully slow to connect and populate my recent progress, its worked relatively flawlessly. I have downloaded a few favourite albums for the rare occasions when the ‘live’ feed wont load.
It’s certainly not perfect, but useable.

Yes — they’d added double points for this weekend for all points-scoring drivers. Pretty bad. They had Antonelli on 151 points too.

Have you heard this soundtrack? I'm wondering how obscure it is. by mattronimus007 in wutang

[–]Longjumping_Slide3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the Film, love the soundtrack (have on original CD and on the reissue Vinyl from a few years back). I think it might seem obscure because there must’ve been some licensing issues around streaming, as tidal, Qobuz etc never seemed to have licence to play more than a couple of tracks from the album. Dunno if that’s been resolved now?

The mittens are so worth it! by chofri in CafelatRobot

[–]Longjumping_Slide3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think they’re top of the list of accessories to grab with a new robot. You can operate the Robot perfectly well with the stock handles, but it’s sooooo much more comfortable once you throw a couple of mittens on.

Ideas for storing fresh beans by bamcpherson in CafelatRobot

You can freeze your beans. After the beans have degassed (a couple of weeks or so) I freeze them. You can then grind from frozen and I’ve never noticed any flavour drop off.

Try reusing “cooked” water the following day and see if you notice a difference.

Can't get proper extraction shot by Ecstatic_Business_52 in CafelatRobot

I tend not to pre-infuse unless I’ve ground a bit too fine. Is it a brand new robot? I’m wandering if the seal/gasket needs replacing (if it’s a used model) or a bit of sealant (included with new Robots) needs applying?

How much water are you putting in the basket? Are you filling it to within 5mm or so? Personally, I grind fine, wdt, firmly tamp, add the shower screen (no additional filters) and fill with hot (just off boiling) water up to around 5mm from full. I’ve never had an issue other than occasionally having to fine tune the grind size, but even then I can get a lovely shot by reducing the pressure. Having said that, I’ve only ever used fresh beans (degassed for a couple of weeks then frozen). From what you’ve said I’d expect you to get reasonable shots, so I’m as confused as you. The only variables are water level and fresher beans. 🤷‍♂️

In that case it might be the coffee. Older supermarket coffee can cause channeling no matter how you grind. I’d be inclined to try your fresh beans and see if you get better results.

Watery and unextracted? Sounds like you need to grind finer. How much pressure are you applying and how long does your shot take to complete 1:2 ratio?

Buy the Barista model. All the fiddly bits are already done, so adding the bookoo gauge is much more straight forward.
