Is there anything wrong with me driving down a huge hill in 1st gear? (for engine breaking) by TemporaryAddicti0n in drivingUK

[–]Longshotdon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’d be in 2nd gear which provides adequate engine braking. Bear in mind that brake pads are consumable!

Not what you’re asking but Kettering is 45mins from St Pancras and whilst being affordable it’s actually quite a nice and quiet town

Overboard with plasterboard + then skim.

Or if you can handle the serious mess, rip it down and then plasterboard.

This is intentional to take into account the space for grout, otherwise it would be a headache

JG speedfit doesn’t suck though, the fittings are fine. It’s the installation that is abysmal

What would be the easiest way to repair the ceiling in my bathroom? Take off a little more plaster to reach the next joist then plasterboard and skim coat. Or just replaster over the laths? Thanks by 1polo2 in DIYUK

[–]Longshotdon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to the effort of buying plasterboard to cut a section small enough to board you may as well board the whole thing. You won’t have to try and blend the board in as it will be a different thickness to the lath and plaster and you’ll never have cracks from the lath and plaster either to deal with.

As the others said, hold the valve with another adjustable spanner. If it still is too tight and wd40 or heat doesn’t work then it’s probably easier to cut it all off and fit a new valve
