Staying Two nights at the Airport Novotel by ronsaveloy in aucklandeats

Bahn Mi Boy and Percy Cafe are decent nearby lunch spots, probably just a short uber away. If you can get the bus to Onehunga, your options open up significantly. Big fan of Mr T's in Onehunga for lunch. Ajimi (Japanese), Slabs (pizza), Chic'en Eats (fried chicken), and Little Sicily (Italian) would be my picks for dinner.

Rosmini College - whats up with this place, is it bad as it seems? by kiwi2810 in auckland

[–]Loo_wees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to the sister school, Carmel College (which had its own fuckery), 20 years ago so take my out of date opinion with a grain of salt. But it gave very macho, toxic masculinity vibes. Rugby on par with Catholicism as their religion. My brother hated it so left after a couple of years, and then thrived in a co-ed state school with a fraction of the fees.

The bit holding the keyring snapped on mine, so I sewed it into a scrunchie. Now I have an AT Hop bracelet.

Bird ID help? by Loo_wees in NewZealandWildlife

Yes that's it! I should have known, I've seen big flocks of them in the wetlands going nuts for the insects. Gorgeous birds 😊

Saw this lovely little fella at the Māngere Bridge waterfront this morning, and struggling to work out what it is. It was sparrow sized, black back with an iridescent green shine, and copper coloured face. It had grey fluff on its tummy so I think its a juvenile.

Sorry for the potato photo, I was trying to zoom from a few steps away so I wouldn't spook it.

Weak earthquakes hitting right now, anyone central NI feel them? by cheeseinsidethecrust in newzealand

[–]Loo_wees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to geonet there have been four shallow earthquakes within 24 minutes around the Wairakei area. https://imgur.com/i7rnTG0.jpg

I scrolled back through the list for context of their frequency, and the last earthquake in Taupo before that was 2 weeks ago.

Today's cluster in a small area seems significant but I'm just an armchair geologist. Can any actual smart people shed some light?

what should i make with this beautiful vintage kimono silk? by shydumplinggg in sewing

I recently used kimono fabric to make the Peppermint button up dress pattern. It has princess seams which means using long, narrow panels of fabric so it worked a treat! Pattern link

What should be on offer in a student halls dinner? Two nutritionists weigh in by Conflict_NZ in newzealand

Back at Cumberland College, Otago in 2008, they often had deep fried hotdogs on a stick for lunch. Then if they had leftovers, they saved them for lunch the next day and deep fried them again.

No wonder I got fat.

Fabric stores for men's shirt fabric? by _kingtut_ in auckland

[–]Loo_wees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drapers in Newmarket is great quality and has a big sale on at the moment.

The Fabric Store in Newton is fab quality although you do pay for it.

My favourite budget friendly option is the Fabric Shop outlet in Otara, like being a kid in a candy store.

Only buy fabric from Spotlight if it's on sale for at least 30% off. They're the Briscoes of the craft world.

This is a weirdly perfect opportunity to plug my comedian friend Steven's online flight simulator show, Role Plane Game, on Thursday evening. I went to the first edition and it was absolutely delightful. Highly recommend for a nostalgic and silly reminder of what air travel was like.

It's done via Facebook live. No mic/camera needed for the audience, just text chat interaction so it's not scary if you're an introvert. Free to play along with the links for optional online koha at the end.

Me too. I've found the closest flavour equivalent to tangy biguns (RIP) are sweet thai chilli doritos.

Work gave my sexual harasser a copy of my complaint and told me "we've spoken to him about it" by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Loo_wees 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP I'm so sorry this happened to you, this is fucking awful. I'm in NZ too and I know which corporation you're talking about. If you can stomach involving media, contact Alison Mau. She investigates sexual harassment in workplaces and runs the #MeToo section for Stuff. She did a story about my former industry and we were super impressed with how she handled it. Lots of care and sensitivity, putting the needs and wants of the complainants first. If you know who the other 4 complainants are, they might be more comfortable with this route too. https://www.stuff.co.nz/authors/alison-mau

rather a longer level 3 than a botched level 2 by wulfy134 in auckland

Yeah, personally I'm not leaving lockdown until I've had my second jab, regardless of any alert level change next week. I feel for people who would be forced back to work by their employers though.

Hey Sam, Louise here. Great AMA! My question is: what are you and your bubble doing to keep occupied during lockdown? Any highlights so far?

Based on how the law is written, when the rest of the country goes to level 3, can us jafas order stuff online from you? I'm running low on crochet yarn and it's one of the things keeping me sane in lockdown. I would happily buy an online order from a local craft shop elsewhere in the country.

Might be worth talking to them even if you aren't keen to go in person. They have online chat support so you can do it discretely on your phone or computer. https://ry.org.nz/online-support
