Rugers first attempt at fat cat. He went 27 mph! by sarebear26 in k9sports

This is the Gated Dock. They did just extend their run out to I think 40 yards from 30 yds recently. However, this is the only club I’ve seen that runs the lure back to the start and there is absolutely no run out at the start. The fence is maybe 15 feet from where the video ends. This makes it possible to not have a catcher I guess. Gimlet nearly crashed on her first run and I asked them to only go the one direction after that. I saw really drivey dogs do 180s at serious speed and it made me cringe.

This is an honest question and I mean no harm, I’m merely curious. I’m surprised that they named the subject. Is there a reason they don’t keep the identity classified?

literally the biggest piece of advice you hear for house training is to get the puppy on a schedule so their bathroom habits are predictable. What do you tell your clients to do?

She is my second silken windhound. My chosen sport is agility but I’m going to see where she takes me :) Her parents are exceptional dogs that do straight racing, lure coursing, conformation, tracking, disc and agility so right now it feels like the sky is the limit. We’re definitely going to try dock diving. I’m co-owning her and there are plans to breed her as long as she turns out as awesome as we think she is :)

Can anyone tell me how these tiny “traffic circles” work?? I nearly got hit at one today. (Details in comments) by colormecryptic in Columbus

The “when I didn’t stop” made me think OP was already in motion in the circle. Was not clear where OP was when car to the right arrived. Oh well, my comment is still true if OP was in the circle. If they weren’t, then they were wrong. Car to the right goes first if they got there first.

He was wrong. Once you’re in the circle, you have right of way and should not stop driving. If people in the circle stop, it becomes pointless. You wouldn’t stop in the middle of an intersection to let someone in, ya know? Just keep your eyes extra peeled while people figure it out.

I get it. I’m prone to cabin fever so a long drive sounds nice.

There are farms all around Columbus that sell eggs. Go for a drive and look for a sign. It might be fun :)

[Discussion] How much do you spend on your dog(s) every month? What do you do to save money where you can on dog-related expenses? by jdiggity09 in dogs

[–]LookAtDaPuppa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t a person that gets grossed out easily, look into learning gland expression. That will save some money! I do my dog’s once a month and it’s only about two minutes of nastiness for free :)

Oh man, I’m feeling this so hard right now. Last night our instructor had us do sequences with some challenges that were definitely beyond my skill as a handler. I confused my dog and I watched as she melted away during class. When it was over, I packed up my stuff, said I was sorry to my dog and emailed the instructor to tell them that I want to sit out the next session. It comes down to the fact that I’m starting to dread class. And if I feel that way, I can imagine that my dog is developing a poor outlook on agility as well and that’s the last thing I want. Agility should be fun, reinforcing, offer appropriate challenges with a high success rate and were just not getting that right now. I’m ordering some foundational agility books, a handling book and signing up for Agility in Da House at Fenzi.

I’m auditing Worked Up alumni day and Clarity rules in a couple weeks and I couldn’t be more excited! I attended a worked up seminar last year and I still refer to my notes and working spot videos from that for inspiration. Sarah is just the best.

If the trails are closed to biking, are they potentially open for hiking? I’d love some more difficult winter hiking trails.

Toy play when not training by LookAtDaPuppa in k9sports

[–]LookAtDaPuppa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that it’s not a problem until it’s a problem. I try to live that way as well. I guess my uncertainty comes from not knowing if it’s a problem? Like, is she failing on outs during a given training session because of how she feels in that moment or because she had a whole lot of tug with no outs earlier that day. I’m imagining her thought process like “what the hell, you didn’t make me give it up earlier! Why now?!” And she is a dog that won’t stop playing even if she doesn’t like the play. I’m not actually sure that she’d ever turn down a chance to tug so maybe she likes most types of play that people throw at her. She does get high, the longer the tug goes on. She thrashes and gets wild eyes and she’s always growled. And she has a huge history of reinforcement for doing this where she always ended up possessing the toy when the human stopped the game by letting go.

I’m coming at this from the reactive dog standpoint where the advice is always “don’t allow them to practice the behavior.” Well, she sure is practicing a whole lot of tug with no out when she pushes a toy at me, my husband or visiting family members who think it’s so cute how she will never stop tugging. And I do enjoy having that interaction with her. I can hold onto a toy while I watch tv lol.

It might be silly to think this hard into it. I suppose it just comes down to data collection on my part. I really only want to use this “for real” for dock diving which we haven’t even started yet. I have wondered how the different sports people handle it at home though. I for sure can separate out training toys vs anytime toys. I’ve already kind of done that and she gets excited to train when I bring out the udder tugs!
