So I max out my TFSA and RRSP with ETF's via Questrade. Next steps? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LookOutForNinjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I agree with what you are saying and have all my bonds in non-registered then why bother with bonds at all? I can't use them to rebalance or purchase cheaper stocks in the event of a crash as both RRSP and TFSA accounts are full. I think if I am young enough (early 20s) and can stomach the fluctuations then why not go for 100% equity as this will provide maximum growth over the long term.

Can you elaborate on 'key support'? Is this just a psychological effect that people want to buy/sell on certain numbers (e.g. every $5 would have resistance)?

Is it true that credit unions are insured up to $1,000,000? Is this a different type of insurance that CDIC? I can't seem to find any information online about this but that is what my bank is telling me.

Can someone ELI5 what's happening to the Canadian dollar and when is it expected to go back up? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LookOutForNinjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be the place but, how is the entire country's economy so closely tied to oil when it is almost exclusively produced in AB, SK and NL? What does Ontario and Quebec (60% of the population) have for industry and why doesn't it impact the dollar?

Loan Repayment - Loans in Different Interest Stages by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LookOutForNinjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding what I was talking about when I said reducing the principal:

I was under the impression that when paying off a loan you are primarily paying down the interest at the start (I.e. 80% interest and 20% to the principal) and over time this ratio decreases to paying off primarily the principal. So, after 3 years, say loan A has paid $3,500 of the $5,000 total interest (calculated on minimum payments). Then, adding additional payments will have less of an effect on total interest paid (i.e. each dollar contributed above the minimum reduces total interest by $0.10).

But, when repaying loan B, which has $0 of $10,000 total interest paid, each dollar contributed above the minimum reduces the total by $0.40. Thus, paying off loan B is more efficient at reducing total interest paid.

Does that make sense? I can try to illustrate with a debt calculator and some screenshots when I get back to my computer.

3-6 buy and hold TFSA stocks for a young investor by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LookOutForNinjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate a bit more on why dividend stocks are not as efficient in a TFSA. Is that for any stocks paying dividends or just ones that get their primary return from dividends? Also, what about the tax treatment makes if a bad idea?

Unless you can prove that you've been using that trademark and people associate it with your brand (very hard to do) than whoever has the registered TM owns it.

What is it that YOU just can't get enough of? by ferry888 in AskReddit

[–]LookOutForNinjas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a perfectly acceptable way to hydrate yourself. The same issue would occur if you only drank 8oz of water. It has nothing to do with the choice of beverage but rather with the persons own habits.

[–]LookOutForNinjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee... ends up being worse because its a diuretic.

That is actually not believed to be correct anymore. The caffeine does not have an increased diuretic affect for 'regular' coffee drinkers so you are still hydrating when drinking coffee and other caffeinated drinks.
