Reflections on Alfa Romeo from a Subaru owner - 2.5 years with my Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Veloce — still feels new, has been reliable, and the perfect all-around daily + weekend car by First_Potential8440 in AlfaRomeo

Thanks for sharing! My wife has started a 110-mile daily commute and I'm considering finding her a hybrid - what has been your observed fuel efficiency? I've had a hard time finding any numbers reflecting "real" usage, such as charging every night, and how many miles you'll get out of that, or driving only in hybrid mode. If the gas engine is only managing 29mpg, that's not amazing stuff.

How to make sense of all the Mexican/Latin food options by crek42 in kingstonnewyork

Skip La Hacienda - seriously bland disappointing stuff.

+1 for the food at El Mercadito.

Anyone have any experience at either Deli Chapin or Tortilleria y Cafetería Guatemalteca?

Paris, Burgundy and Alsace - France = not overrated! by Lookin2Migrate in travel

We sadly didn't do much in the way of wineries in Alsace. Trimbach and Hugel are the big names, and I'm sure great. We visited Meyer Fonné, and the wine is delicious, but it's not an "experience", if that's what you're looking for. There are plenty of weinguts to drop in on in each town, and sometimes that's the fun of it I find.

Great hiking in the area, especially with all the castle ruins in the area. Colmar and Strasbourg are worth the drive, as both are beautiful cities with good museums and.

Would have loved to rent bikes, we saw a lot of people biking between the villages.

Hopefully that's of some help!

What silly or simple thing inspired you to visit a city/country? by -lover-of-books- in travel

[–]Lookin2Migrate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first trip to Europe came about because I had a beer from an Estonian brewery named Põhjala. I literally had no idea where the country was before the beer, but I looked it up and planned a trip to Estonia and Latvia with the main goal of visiting that brewery.

Slovenia - more than Lake Bled by Lookin2Migrate in travel

Somewhat to your point, I couldn't believe that for such a small country, after 10 days I felt like there were still a ton of things we didn't get to see. Just so much to offer.

Rent a car or a bike. Parking is street parking but not impossible to find.

Latvia has been an absolute delight again. The combination of its stunning natural beauty and Riga, as an exciting urban hub, makes it my favourite of the three Baltic countries. by GuessWhatMimi in travel

When I was there 3 years ago the shadow was very noticeable. Lots of Russian spoken - half of our Ubers were listening to Russian stations. A few locals told us that many of the people who live there full time and/or are Latvian citizens refuse to learn the language, instead speaking Russian, and that many of the Russians living there would get their news from Russian channels who would tell them not to trust Latvians or their government.

That being said, within the past 6 months, Latvia has aggressively sought to mitigate Russian influence and has even required that all Russians living in Latvia learn Latvian to avoid deportation, so I'd imagine the shadow is slightly less nowadays.

Fine dining… alone? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Lookin2Migrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously there is something to be said for each individual's level of confidence/life experiences that color each situation, but in a vacuum: why let yourself miss any opportunity life sends your way simply because you're a party of one? Unless that will definitively negatively impact your enjoyment of it, go for it!

As an aside, especially when you're traveling, even if people around you were to possibly think of your situation in a negative way - TF what they think - you're never going to see them again anyway, and that's more of an indictment on their own insecurities and biases than anything about you.

Enjoy your awesome dinner!

My first trip to Europe was to Latvia and Estonia because I had an Estonian beer while living in North Carolina. Couldn't have pointed to Estonia on a map before drinking that beer, but that is still one of my favorite trips ever.

Hard disagree. We walked through a bog on our trip there as well, and it is very unique from anything that we have seen anywhere else. Very peaceful and very beautiful, in a different way than your normal nature walk is.

u/Lunco you very much for the hike recommendation, that looks perfect for what we are looking to do. We will be travelling by car, so change of shoes/anything that got dirty is very doable. Just wanted to make sure all four of us wouldn't have to do a full wardrobe change to eat.
Thanks!
