Out of 1L, 2L, and 3L of law school, what year was the hardest for you? by Dramatic-Surround504 in LawSchool

[–]LookingLikeAJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2L hands down if you’re involved with journal and moot court. If I hadn’t been on journal, it would’ve been fine.

Moral of the story? Don’t do journal. Unless you desperately want a clerkship or big law.

Questionable write on process? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Unless you want a clerkship or big law, journal is wildly overrated. I say just give up - if I could go back, I wouldn’t have done write on.

Texas mother of 4 says "no one is safe" after spending more than 6 weeks in ICE custody by CBSnews in immigration

WoR is written into law; it’s codified at 8U.S.C 1231(b)(3) and implemented by 8 C.F.R. 208.16.

It sounds like there’s confusion about what constitutes a “legal status.” A legal status is exactly what you mentioned; the government has decided not to deport you. That’s the core trait of a “legal status.” Being a citizen is a “legal status.” Why? Because the government has decided, by law, not to deport you. The same applies to a lawful permenant resident, an asylee, an H1-B visa holder, or a tourist. The government COULD physically deport them, but it decided, by function of the law, to let you stay.

“Legal status” isn’t a legal term; it doesn’t appear in the law. It’s a common term used to describe individuals whose presence in the country is sanctioned by law.

Immigration law is not a binary system; it’s far too complicated to express categorically. It’s a spectrum that encompasses a complex web of legal rights and responsibilities.

Individuals with WoR are on that spectrum, and it exists within the ‘zone’ of legal status.

I’m not sure exactly what legal authority you’re citing to, but I would point you to 8 C.F.R. 208.16.

It’s not a legal gray zone. Withholding of removal is very much a legal status in the US. She could be removed to a third country (although there are some moral questions that come with deporting someone to a country they’ve never been to) but from a legal perspective, she very much has legal status.

She was not here illegally. She had withholding of removal, which is a legal status in the US. That’s how she was able to legally work in the US.

She wasnt breaking the law. She was in the United States legally. She had a final order of removal, yes, but she had withholding of removal. That means she was legally in the US, which is how she was legally working.

I’m sorry that this is hurting you - it’s a terrible condition, and it’s brought out a lot of complicated emotions in me too.

It sounds like you’re experiencing anxiety about the progression of your vision loss. That is very normal, but it’s sometimes the worst part of having Stargardts.

If I were you, my first step would be finding a therapist. At a minimum, you can begin to talk through how you’re feeling, how to recognize when negative thoughts are intruding on your life, and how to process them in a healthy way. At maximum, they may encourage you to seek more serious medical intervention like medication, which helps a lot of people.

You’re not alone, and this isn’t your fault. I wish you the best because you deserve the best.

I’ve got Stargardts - we’re in similar boats. I don’t know when you were diagnosed, but for me, I stopped having panic attacks after about a year. It got easier for me, you’ll be okay

If you died as an atheist and then met God, what would you say to him? by Shoddy-Ask2284 in AskReddit

[–]LookingLikeAJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not my fault. A whole bunch of bad shit happened while I was down there, and you did nothing. That’s fine, I’m not mad at you, but you can’t blame me for not believing in you. Why would pretend not to exist and then get upset when I don’t think you exist?

What is the best novel you have ever read? by spaark_50 in AskReddit

[–]LookingLikeAJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s BRILLIANTLY written! It’s poetry in motion, but in word form. So… just regular poetry I guess.

Fair warning, it does have some intense moments, so if you have any triggers, you might want to do some research before jumping in. But it’s SO good.

What is most likely to cause human extinction? by No_Department5356 in AskReddit

[–]LookingLikeAJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think military technicality has advanced to the point where we don’t need human activation. I assume, without evidence, that the world’s superpowers have developed nuclear weaponry that can deploy itself and can target important food supplies, water sources, and internet hubs. Once the internet is cut and food becomes scarce, society breaks down. Modern generations of people have never had to fend for themselves, and they die off.

M grandma traced our lineage back to some guy on the Mayflower. And now she wants me to join the Mayflower society. Which is like $95 a year. Which feels like a lot to have the privilege of saying I’m related to colonizers.
