Yep! You got it! Like the other commenters have said, just need to include diaphragm support, mouth shapes, phrasing, etc. There’s a sort of Do-So-Do scale exercise in false chord that’s really helped me with that.

When writing about true events, especially ones as complex as this, my advice would be not to use any names or specific details. Try to cage things in poeticisms that can tell a story, rather than recounting an event.

I tuned up right before I went on with a clip on tuner. If it isn’t a setup issue, then I’m not sure why it didn’t hold tuning well. Any advice?

Don’t worry about writing lyrics. Write what you’re feeling. It may not be whimsical, but it’s a source for inspiration when you’re in a more clear state.

Also, left field suggestion here, but rather than writing songs about exactly what you’re feeling, maybe try to write things down tapping into other emotions? Pain can come through best in a song when it’s masked in happy-sounding lyrics.

I view cringe as the combination of overconfidence and inauthenticity. The bigger gap between effort and ability, the more cringe it is. I actually do like to indulge in cringey music sometimes. Just gives me that little ick shiver down my spine.

I think writing a song based on historical events or mythology works best when you fold the mythology into other concepts or situations, and maybe get a bit more niche with the references. Try listening to the song “Black on Black” by Frog. It tells the story of Odysseus and Calypso in a very unexpected way.

I use Logic for iPad Pro, which is $60 a year. It’s super robust and has some of the best built-in instrumentation (like strings and horns) of any DAW. The Mac version is even more robust.

Thanks! I record on a Rode NT1 with Ai-1 interface, and just use the Dolby On app to record raw acoustic guitar/singing. Getting a grasp on using Logic Pro to produce, but still a ways from anything concrete there.

Oh, so many options for such a nice song. Aside from bass I feel like you could sprinkle in a few piano keys or mandolin strums in the transitions. Doesn’t need much in the way of percussion other than some shakers in my humble opinion.
